Understanding Discovery: Evaluating The Use And Impact Of Ebsco Discovery Service, Ronalee Ciocco, Jessica Howard, Donna Skekel
Jessica Howard
More than a year after implementing the EBSCO Discovery Service, we have used website statistics, usability tests, and interlibrary loan data to assess how the service is being used. In this session we discussed what we learned and the implications for our library and our patrons. Poster presented at Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) Annual Conference on October 1, 2012.

Chapter One: A Small College Library Joins The Open Access Movement, Janelle L. Wertzberger
Janelle Wertzberger
The open access movement has been going strong for over a decade. Large research universities tend to have the oldest and most active programs. Their work is inspiring, but it can be challenging for librarians at smaller institutions to identify ways to contribute to the movement. Gettysburg College launched its institutional repository in 2012. This presentation tells how we got started.

Using De Bono’S Six Thinking Hats For Creative Thinking, Effective Decision Making, Engaged Meetings, And Faster Problem Solving, Linda M. Golian-Lui, Katherine Jana Golian-Lui
Using De Bono’S Six Thinking Hats For Creative Thinking, Effective Decision Making, Engaged Meetings, And Faster Problem Solving, Linda M. Golian-Lui, Katherine Jana Golian-Lui
Linda M. Golian-Lui
Thinking is like breaking – we take it for granted. We assume that the way we think is the ‘right’ way and that everyone thinks the same way. We involve too much in the thinking process creating a ‘thinking stew’ filled with emotions, ruts, and opinions. De Bono’s six thinking hats is a simple, fun, and effective technique that helps organizations communicate more effectively and stimulates creative problem solving. Come and learn and experience this unique communication tool.

Leslie Matrices For Logistic Population Modeling, Bruce Kessler
Leslie Matrices For Logistic Population Modeling, Bruce Kessler
Bruce Kessler
Leslie matrices are taught as a method of modeling populations in a discrete-time fashion with more detail in the tracking of age groups within the population. Leslie matrices have limited use in the actual modeling of populations, since when the age groups are summed, it is basically equivalent to discrete-time modeling assuming exponential population growth. The logistic model of population growth is more realistic, since it takes into account a carrying capacity for the environment of the population. This talk will describe an adjustment to the Leslie matrix approach for population modeling that is both takes into account the carrying …
