The Difference In Maximal Voluntary Ventilation In Trained Persons And Untrained Persons, Tori Birks, Emily Bailor, Maya Jeffcoat, Callie Rhea Oct 2019

The Difference In Maximal Voluntary Ventilation In Trained Persons And Untrained Persons, Tori Birks, Emily Bailor, Maya Jeffcoat, Callie Rhea

EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters

The purpose of this test was to determine if trained subjects have better MVV performance than untrained subjects. MVV is typically higher in young, aerobically trained athletes who have non-restrive or obstructive lung conditions and whose respiratory muscles are well trained (Beam & Adams, 2014). Hypothesis:It was hypothesized that the trained males will have higher MVV values than untrained females, trained females, and untrained males .

The Relationship Between Perfectionism And Self-Determined Motivation In Collegiate Division I Athletes, Christian Sengfelder May 2019

The Relationship Between Perfectionism And Self-Determined Motivation In Collegiate Division I Athletes, Christian Sengfelder

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

Introduction: An athlete’s performance is dependent on both psychological and physical factors. Perfectionism and motivation are two psychological factors that can influence performance of athletes in a positive or negative manner. The relationship between perfectionism and motivation has been studied previously, but the relationship has not been studied with sport specific measurements and the collegiate athlete population has largely been ignored. Purpose: To investigate the levels of perfectionism and motivation in collegiate Division I student-athletes and determine how the forms of perfectionism (adaptive versus maladaptive) are related to the different levels of motivation (controlled vs autonomous forms) in this …

Effects Of Warm Tub Immersion Versus Cold Tub Immersion To Relieve Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness In Division 2 Collegiate Baseball Players, Erin Ackerson, Kelsey Caldwell, Lindsey Ford Apr 2019

Effects Of Warm Tub Immersion Versus Cold Tub Immersion To Relieve Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness In Division 2 Collegiate Baseball Players, Erin Ackerson, Kelsey Caldwell, Lindsey Ford

The Research and Scholarship Symposium (2013-2019)

In our study we looked at the effects of warm tub immersion versus cold tub immersion to relieve delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) in Division II collegiate athletes. We chose to research this topic because we are a group of three senior Athletic Training students and have seen the use of Cold Tub Immersion in everyday modality interventions to treat DOMS. In recent years there has been controversy over if Cold Tub Immersion is best patient care or if possibly implementing Warm Tub Immersion would be more effective in treating DOMS. Although there is a vast amount of literature examining …

10-Day Nutritional Assessment For 20 Year Old, Active Female, Emily Dyment Apr 2019

10-Day Nutritional Assessment For 20 Year Old, Active Female, Emily Dyment

EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters

Food tracking has become an increasingly more popular method for individuals seeking to make changes in their dietary habits. According to Skinner et al., food tracking has proven its credibility,as individuals seem much more likely to initiate positive dietary changes when they are recording their daily food intake. Having said this, further knowledge is needed to allow individuals to make significant positive dietary changes. Specifically among at risk populations such as female college athletes. According to Skinner et al. increases in nutrition knowledge may result in significantly more desirable attitudes toward nutrition among female athletes (Skinner et al.,2001).

The Effectiveness Of Ankle Braces On Functional Movement Screening And Ankle Joint Range Of Motion On Collegiate Division I Volleyball Players, Maya Jeffcoat-Troy Apr 2019

The Effectiveness Of Ankle Braces On Functional Movement Screening And Ankle Joint Range Of Motion On Collegiate Division I Volleyball Players, Maya Jeffcoat-Troy

EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters

The purpose of this research is to examine the effectiveness of ankle braces on functional movement and ankle joint range of motion on female Division 1 collegiate volleyball players. The data will be analyzed to determine if ankle braces impede or help functional movement and ankle joint range of motion. It was hypothesized that ankle braces will not affect overall functional performance but will have an effect on ankle joint range of motion and lower body kinematics.

The Effects Of Energy Drinks On Division 1 Female Soccer Midfielders, Jordan Vitale Apr 2019

The Effects Of Energy Drinks On Division 1 Female Soccer Midfielders, Jordan Vitale

EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters

The purpose of this study is to expand the known effects that energy drinks have on an aerobic exercise performance and explore a new population of female soccer midfielders through the use of a Wingate test. It is hypothesized that the consumption of an energy drink prior to a Wingate an aerobic test would result in overall better an aerobic performance, specifically with increased power and a lower fatigue index.

The Effects Of Dry Needling On Hamstring Strains And Pain In Collegiate Athletes, Eric Jones Apr 2019

The Effects Of Dry Needling On Hamstring Strains And Pain In Collegiate Athletes, Eric Jones

EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of dry needling on pain in acute grade 1 hamstring strains. The hypothesis for this research study was that the dry needling treatment groups would experience in a larger decrease in pain levels according to the VAS scores than the control group.

Jumping And Stabilization Techniques In Collegiate Athletes With And Without Genu Varum, Jacob Wall

EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters

The purpose of this study was to examine if there are differences in stabilization times between healthy individuals and those with Genu Varum. It is hypothesized that participants with Genu Varum will take longer to stabilize after jumping and landing.

The Effect Of Static Versus Dynamic Stretching Programs On The Lower Body Power Assessments Of The Broad And Vertical Jumps On Male Collegiate Football Players, Antwann Mccray Apr 2019

The Effect Of Static Versus Dynamic Stretching Programs On The Lower Body Power Assessments Of The Broad And Vertical Jumps On Male Collegiate Football Players, Antwann Mccray

EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters

The purpose of this study was to determine which stretching protocol would be more beneficial to power and jump performance. It was hypothesized that static stretching that occurs during an off-season workout will lead to greater increases in power assessed by the broad and vertical jumps.

Impact Of Concussion And Orthopedic Injuries On Physical Activity And Quality Of Life After Sport Retirement, Makenna Hancock Jan 2019

Impact Of Concussion And Orthopedic Injuries On Physical Activity And Quality Of Life After Sport Retirement, Makenna Hancock

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

CONTEXT: Concussions and orthopedic injuries represent a significant risk related to participation in collegiate athletics. These injuries can create significant long-term impairments and functional limitations which may also decrease former athletes’ quality of life (QoL) and inhibit their ability to engage in physical activity. OBJECTIVE: To investigate QoL and physical activity levels of former collegiate athletes with a history of concussion and orthopedic injury, orthopedic injury only, and healthy controls. DESIGN: Descriptive, experimental study.
SETTING: Daily life as former National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I collegiate athlete.
PARTICIPANTS: Former Division I collegiate athletes competing in football, women’s soccer, baseball, softball, …
