A growing body of research examines precarious employment characteristics that have grown in in the context of a shifting labour market landscape and de-stabilizing structural and economic developments that have gained momentum in Western economies since the 1970s. However, less is known about how these characteristics manifest across the individual life course. This dynamism is conceptually salient not only because labour market activity necessarily changes for individuals over time, but also because the concept of precarious employment concerns long-term employment prospects beyond short-term conditions. Previous research on the experiences of immigrants within foreign labour markets produce mixed findings. In this study, I utilize the February 2020 Canadian Labour Force Survey to address three questions. First, does possessing a higher education ensure that individuals will earn higher weekly wages? Second, for early to middle-age workers is there a gap in weekly wages based on educational attainment between immigrants and non-immigrants.? Third, does higher education protect against precarious work equally for immigrants and non-immigrants? Scholars agree that precarious employment is growing across and within all occupations and industries, but little is known on the educational attainment of precarious workers. Some studies suggest that recent graduates, women, and the less educated are more likely to be employed in precarious work. Other research contends that involuntary precarious employment is rising among all groups and educational levels.
