Since 1970, the United States has seen an explosion in the rate of women working and a change towards equality in men's and women's roles. In 1980, Helal Mobasher Liaey gave a survey to measure what Utah State University students thought were proper roles for women, in categories ranging from occupations to decision making. He did this research at a time when traditional and egalitarian role views were still furiously clashing, especially in Utah, which is generally considered to be one of the most conservative states in the country since it is primarily LDS.   1. This study is the result of two separate surveys of the retail grocery stores in Logan, Utah. The primary purpose of these surveys was to make a detailed study of price differentials as they exist between the stores of different kind, class, location and size.
  2. Logan was chosen for this survey for a number of reasons: (1) It is typical of many Rocky Mountain cities for size.
