A Review Of Explicit And Implicit Propositions About Women As Terrorists, Ineke Haan Marshall, Vincent J. Webb, Dennis Hoffman

The purpose of this paper on women as terrorists is threefold. The first aim is to examine a portion of the existing literature in order to identify explicit and implicit propositions and hypotheses about the causal dynamics involved in female terrorism. The second is to make a critical examination of these propositions and hypotheses and to categorize the nature of prevailing explanations of women as terrorists. Finally, the policy implications of the various approaches to explaining female involvement in terrorist activities are examined.

On June 17, 1982, the Center for Applied Urban Research at the University of Nebraska at Omaha received an award of $72,212 from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to conduct a training and technical assistance program in microcomputers and small and rural local governments. The overall purpose of this project was to enhance the management capabilities of these governments through the use of computers. On April 1, 1984 the Center for Applied Urban Research initiated a study of the requirements for automated word processing for the city of Omaha. The study involved the collection and analysis of information regarding the amount and kind of typing activities in each city department in the civic center. The purpose was to determine whether automated word processing would be feasible and practical in these departments and, if so, how many word processing work stations and printers would be required.

A 1983 study found that patterns of computer use among small local governments (cities under 50,000 and counties under 100 ,000) in seven plains and mountains states were not substantially different from the patterns of computing detected in earlier studies of larger governments. The 1983 study also found that, among other things, basic "housekeeping" functions were the most frequently automated activities; that computer adoption was associated with governmental size, form, type, and metropolitan status; and that most governments owned in-house minicomputers.

Understanding the contemporary housing market or submarkets requires knowledge of the current supply of and demand for housing stock. The purpose of this study is threefold: 1) to determine the current supply of lots and platting trends, 2) to characterize the occupants of new higher value housing through the use of census data, and 3) to estimate growth and locational preference of managerial personnel through a survey of large employers.
