This article will outline the factors that can drive the success of a civil society orga¬nization at the village level in influencing decisions by local governments, with case study of the Sekar Mulyo farmer group in Batu City. The question raised is why the Sekar Mulyo farmer group influences the local agriculture and infrastructure policy more successfully in Batu City in 2009-2016. This article uses qualitative approach by using primary and secondary data. The research found that there are determinants of success are collaborative strategies of civil society organizations, social capital, and clientelistic relation.

Pejalan Independen: Sebuah Diskursus Tentang Keharamantravel Agent Di Kalangan Backpacker, Diah Puspitarini, Ezra M. Choesin

This article discusses the discourse of travelling that has developed among backpackers. Backpacker’s travel are always identical with independent travellers. Independent refers to organizing a whole stories of activities in travelling by themselves. They always do it, without requiring help from others, such as travel agents. The presence of travel agents in the world of travel is contrary to the principles upheld by the independent backpacker. The debate begin when other ideologies of travelling are deliver and the separation of activities between them have started blur. This study used qualitative research methods, with indepth interview and participant observation technique.

The growing revival of religious sentiments in the past few decades exposes serious faults in the explanatory power of the so-called modernization theories, urging social scien- tists to seek new avenues in understanding the phenomena. The article focuses on the way the present character of religious fundamentalism needs to be understood not as a form of traditionalism but as one of the springboard effects inseparable from hybrid modernity. The Ahmadiyya religious group has been present in Indonesia since the 1920s. The reli- gious group is divided into two different subgroups, namely Gerakan Ahmadiyah Indone- sia (GAI) and Jemaat Ahmadiyah Indonesia (JAI). In the reform era, the JAI community has to face a less favorable situation. The Heresy Fatwa issued by Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) in 1980 had put this group into an even more difficult position. The reform era government seemed to give a greater opportunity for anti-Ahmadiyya dominant Islamic groups to commit violence towards this group.
