Team performance and adaptability. A team is a set of two or more people who interact, dynamically, interdependently, and adaptively toward a common and valued goal, each having specific roles or functions to perform, and a limited life-span of membership (Salas, Dickinson, Converse, & Tannenbaum, 1992). We assume that all cognition originates within the individual. Therefore, to understand adaptive team processes it is important to understand the ways in which being a team member affects individual cognitive processes.
