Labor Supply And Underemployment In The Southern United States, Leif Jensen, Jill L. Findeis, Qiuyan Wang

Journal of Rural Social Sciences

"Welfare Reform: A Social Work Perspective For Assessing Success", Dennis D. Long

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 has instituted major changes in providing for the poor in the United States. This article examines the importance of evaluating the impact of this legislation from a social work perspective. Using Mannheim as a theoretical orientation, welfare reform is examined in relation to dominant ideologies of the 90's. Burundi: A Critical Security Perspective, Eli Stamnes, Richard Wyn Jones Nov 2000

Burundi: A Critical Security Perspective, Eli Stamnes, Richard Wyn Jones

Peace and Conflict Studies

In the last few years Critical Security Studies (CSS) has emerged as a new approach to the academic study of security. This article argues that its genesis is best understood as a reaction to two developments, namely ‘real world’ changes after the end of the Cold War and the far-reaching philosophical debates that have recently been taking place within the social sciences. Swallowing Injustice To Build Community: Latin America After The Era Of State Terror, Tom J. Farer

Human Rights & Human Welfare

From the mid-1960's to the late 1980's (even later in certain countries), militarized governments in most of Latin America enforced their view of a desirable public order by terrorizing great numbers of citizens who happened to have different views and also their friends and relations and persons who, whatever their views or lack thereof, objected to terror as a means of governing.
