Biblical Principles Of Government & Criminal Justice, Kahlib Fischer Jan 2021

Biblical Principles Of Government & Criminal Justice, Kahlib Fischer

Faculty Publications and Presentations

The following is an overview of Biblical precepts related to government and criminal justice. Before moving onto specific points of application, it is necessary to establish a paradigm for what it means to have a Biblical worldview in general, and for what it means to know and understand the nature of truth. This paper is as much about pedagogy and hermeneutics as it is about content. But more than that, this paper is about living out the Gospel in all areas of life, of which matters of Church, State, Society, and Soul are all parts.

"Everybody talkin’ ‘bout heaven ain’t goin’ there.” The most popular vision of heaven these days is the prospect of some version of heaven on earth. The spirit of our times seems to embody so many possibilities. Todd Huizinga in The New Totalitarian Temptation (2016) scrutinizes the “soft utopia” of the European Union’s path to “global governance.” Mary Eberstadt in It’s Dangerous to Believe is equally critical in her analysis of the “neo-puritan” secularism that is directed at “marginalizing, silencing, and punishing its traditional competitors” via the sexual revolution. What seems to be heaven on earth is just the opposite for …

Disrupt, Deny, Dismantle: A Special Operations Forces (Sof) Model For Combatting New Terrorism, Will Gunzelman

Faculty Publications and Presentations

Terrorism in the new millennium has morphed drastically since the 1970s. The terrorist organizations of today are a hybrid between the insurgent group models of the 1960s and modern terrorist organizations such as Al Qaeda. This hybrid model has created what has become a transnational insurgency recruited, trained, and led by major terrorist networks such as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Even smaller regional groups such as Boko Haram have surpassed merely conducting terrorist attacks. These smaller groups are also focused on controlling territory. Tan (2008) refers to this change as “New Terrorism”. To combat New …

Woodrow Wilson: A Failure Of Leadership - A Broken Middle East, Timothy P. O'Brien

President Woodrow Wilson failed to engage and lead the Great Powers at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, thereby missing the opportunity to influence and shape the eventual outcomes of their far-reaching policy decisions. Had he been more effective there, many of the dysfunctions in the Middle East may well not exist today.

What Robert Bellah calls ‘expressive individualism’ has led to unprecedented social legislation in America and expanded government employment since the 1960s, helping to produce a generous supply of public services, policy entrepreneurs, and clientele groups. The legal scholar Lawrence M Friedman notes that ‘the right to be ‘oneself,’ to choose oneself, is placed in a special and privileged position.’ As a consequence, ‘achievement is defined in subjective, personal terms, rather than in objective, social terms.’ When the claims of expressive individualism are considered in tandem with the increasing reach of the modern social service state, a case may be made …

Leadership & Statesmanship: An Introduction, Kahlib Fischer Jan 2012

Leadership & Statesmanship: An Introduction, Kahlib Fischer

Faculty Publications and Presentations

This course allows us to focus on statesmanship—its definition, attributes, and application in the political arena. Before doing so, we need to understand the extent to which statesmanship and leadership overlap. After all, to be a statesman is to be a leader, but does that mean that all leaders are statesman? Before that question can be answered, we will look at a basic (and Biblical) overview of the key ideas of leadership which may be relevant to our understanding of statesmanship. In doing so, it is hoped that the reader will look for points of personal application from the principles …
