Improving Stress Management For Female College Students, Kelsey Acosta
Improving Stress Management For Female College Students, Kelsey Acosta
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Although many college students report feeling stress, women may have a unique perspective and experience regarding stress. Gilligan's theory states that women consider their relationships when considering decisions. This decision-making process can create an added layer of the already existing academic stressors that women face. Stress management techniques that acknowledge the unique stressors that women face are essential to improve mental health and provide an optimal college experience.

Relations Between Social Comparisons And Physical Activity Among Women In Midlife With Elevated Risk For Cardiovascular Disease: An Ecological Momentary Assessment Study., Danielle Arigo, Jacqueline A Mogle, Joshua M Smyth
Faculty Scholarship for the College of Science & Mathematics
Women in midlife (ages 40-60) show decreases in physical activity (PA) that exacerbate risk for cardiovascular disease. Social comparisons (i.e., self-evaluations relative to others) are known to influence PA in other groups, but their association in this population is unknown. The present study used ecological momentary assessment to examine this relation among women in midlife with hypertension or another CVD risk condition (N = 75, M
Sociocultural Factors Of Female Sexual Desire And Sexual Satisfaction, Matysen Evensen
Sociocultural Factors Of Female Sexual Desire And Sexual Satisfaction, Matysen Evensen
Intuition: The BYU Undergraduate Journal of Psychology
Historically, research on the human sexual-response cycle has not accounted for individual differences in gender and context. As a circular female response cycle was introduced in the latter end of the 20th century, differentiation between male and female sexuality was embraced, and individual variation between women became commonly known for the first time. As part of this historical shift, sexual desire became an integral part of the sexual experience (Basson, 2000). Most research on female sexual desire focuses on low desire and diagnosable conditions, but, among researchers, there is a growing consensus for additional focus into the roots of female …
The Influence Of Parent-Child Relationships On Female Sexual Functioning: A Review Of The Literature, Laura Tillman
The Influence Of Parent-Child Relationships On Female Sexual Functioning: A Review Of The Literature, Laura Tillman
Dissertations
This literature review is an examination of the impact of parental communication of sexual functioning in women. Women have many commonalities of sexual experiences and receive similar messages as children and adolescents in regards to their sexual behavior. Current attitudes towards women’s sexuality and sexual functioning and the outcomes that a lack of communication can warrant are areas of importance for this literature review. This Clinical Research Project (CRP) examines how frequently parents communicate about sexual topics with their child, how parents communicate, and parental feelings surrounding discussions. Parenting models and attachment styles are reviewed and how childhood experiences shape …
Exploring The Effects Of Nicotine On Reward Learning In Female Sprague-Dawley Rats, Brendan Atticks
Exploring The Effects Of Nicotine On Reward Learning In Female Sprague-Dawley Rats, Brendan Atticks
Summer Scholarship, Creative Arts and Research Projects (SCARP)
Nicotine addiction harms millions of individuals worldwide: financially, socially, and psychologically. Successful smoking cessation could dramatically improve the quality of life for these people. A key driver of smoking relapse centers around associated environmental cues, which induces craving and drives a smoker to re-initiate smoking. Previous work has shown that nicotine can enhance the reinforcing properties of reward-associated cues in male rats. This research aims to evaluate nicotine’s effect on female rats using a behavioral assay called “cue-induced reward-seeking.” In this behavioral assay, rats are trained to press a lever that produces liquid sucrose along with an audiovisual cue. After …
Physical And Behavioral Factors And Their Influence On Psychosocial Functioning And Adherence In Women With Celiac Disease, Joclyn R. Malys
Physical And Behavioral Factors And Their Influence On Psychosocial Functioning And Adherence In Women With Celiac Disease, Joclyn R. Malys
PCOM Psychology Dissertations
Celiac disease is a chronic autoimmune disease with physiological symptoms including diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and anemia. Weight change before and after treatment is common among women with Celiac disease. The relationship between the physical manifestations of Celiac disease and their effects on psychosocial functioning is unclear. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the magnitude of weight change on depression, body image, and eating behaviors. This cross-sectional study used data that were collected via online anonymous surveys from 140 women with Celiac disease. Functioning and adherence were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), The …

The purpose of this study was to understand the trajectories of nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) and suicide plans (SP) in the 90 days prior to inpatient hospitalization, understand the role of NSSI and SP in predicting suicide attempts (SA) on a given day, and to test the interaction between NSSI and SP in predicting same-day SA. Participants included 69 adolescents (77% female, 65% white, 77% Non-Hispanic/Latinx, Mage = 15.77 SDage = 1.00) from an inpatient psychiatric unit. Past 90 day NSSI, SP, and SA were measured using the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale and Timeline Follow Back. First, mixed effect models …
Impact Of Camouflaging On Females With Autism, Cortney Janicki-Menzie
Impact Of Camouflaging On Females With Autism, Cortney Janicki-Menzie
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
Females with autism spectrum disorder are an underrepresented group in the autism literature that is in need of greater understanding. Growing evidence suggests that autistic females have a unique clinical presentation of symptoms and they are more frequently camouflaging their autism characteristics to fit in with peers. While support for social camouflaging theory builds, little attention has been paid to the effects of camouflaging on outcomes for females with autism. The current study proposes that females with autism will demonstrate greater use of camouflaging behaviors and that camouflaging behaviors will predict adverse outcomes for these women. Specific outcomes addressed in …

Black Girls Work Out Too! An Exploration Of Physical Activity Behaviors Of Black Women, Kimberley C. Desir
PCOM Psychology Dissertations
Lack of participation in physical activity has become an increasing public health concern in the United States. Compared to any other racial and ethnic group, Black women have the lowest prevalence of exercise. A limited amount of empirical research suggests cultural beliefs about the meaning of physical activity has a role in one’s ability to initiate and maintain a physical activity regimen. Black women face specific sociocultural factors that impact their physical activity routines. Hair care practices and maintenance has been identified as a unique barrier among Black women. This qualitative research study investigated the influence of the distinctions in …
