This article, collaboratively written by the presidents of the National Latina/o Psychological Association (NLPA), presents leadership as conceptualized and practiced in NLPA. We first identify key leadership constructs in the available literature as well as relevant cultural values, describe liderazgo (leadership) through cultural lenses, and articulate the connections to counseling psychology and the social justice underpinnings that have guided NLPA’s formation and development. We then present a number of events and decisions to illustrate how we have operationalized these organizing principles in both the daily management and long-term goals of NLPA. The goal of the proposed study is to assess whether particular personality styles of leaders relate to both their management style and degree of perceived work success of the individuals they help guide or direct. The basic question that underlies my hypotheses is: Does the personality style of the leader of a group affect the leadership style, group productivity, and group cooperation? I will be using the Big Five Inventory (John, Donahue, & Kentle 1991) and the Student Leadership Practices Inventory (SLPI) (Kouzes & Posner, 2006a; Kouzes & Posner, 2006b) to measure these constructs. Leaders of a student organization may have a strong impact on the success of the chapter they lead. The current research study examined leadership qualities of Psi Chi Faculty Advisors, leaders in a Psychology honors society, and how those qualities affected the activity, involvement, and satisfaction of members within Psi Chi. In order to assess these variables, a national online survey was sent out to Psi Chi student leaders asking them to evaluate their Faculty Advisor's leadership characteristics in addition to their Psi Chi chapter. Two-hundred and eighty-five surveys were completed and returned. Results showed a significant positive correlation between …
