Masters Theses/Capstone Projects

The practicum was completed at Central Ohio Primary Care Physicians (COPC), a large group of physician owned primary care practices. COPC would like to start a program for pediatric weight management utilizing their three pediatric Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs). The first step was collecting data to see any improvements that are needed from the current nutrition program. The second step was reviewing the literature on pediatric weight management to ensure the new program is evidenced-based. All steps were evaluated by COPC leadership and collaborated with internal company resources.

Staff Nurse Perception Of Professional Role Modeling For Student Nurses In The Clinical Learning Environment, Tamara Montgomery Apr 2017

Staff Nurse Perception Of Professional Role Modeling For Student Nurses In The Clinical Learning Environment, Tamara Montgomery

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Acute care settings continue to be the primary setting for undergraduate nursing education clinical experiences. Staff nurses in acute care settings are expected to provide nursing care with pre-licensure nursing students at their side (even though there are little to no incentives for staff nurses to provide mentoring leadership), which most often takes the form of professional role modeling. In addition, there is no clear evaluative expectation that motivates staff nurses to provide contextual role modeling. Without stated expectations, staff nurse perception of the significance of role modeling for pre-licensure non-precepted nursing students may be deficient.

Because fifty-six percent of …

Improving Vaccination Compliance Among Amish Children In Knox County, Ohio, Laura J. Segraves

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Abstract

Children living in Amish communities in Ohio are under-immunized and under-immunized communities are reservoirs for preventable childhood diseases. A recent measles outbreak in central Ohio involved 9 counties and 377 cases of this vaccine-preventable disease. There were 5 hospitalizations related to this measles outbreak in Knox County. Vaccine-preventable illnesses contribute to pediatric morbidity and mortality and are cost prohibitive to individuals and society.

The purpose of this study was to identify real and perceived barriers to immunizations among Amish parents in Knox County, Ohio. The information obtained in this study will be disseminated to the Knox County Health Department …

The World Health Organization (WHO) in 1995 described obesity as a chronic disease and one of the most important public health threats and in 2000 reported obesity as a “global epidemic.” The numbers of obese children are increasing in society; moreover, the onset of obesity is occurring at even a younger age than in the past. The objective of this project was to provide education on utilization of a tool kit to increase the nurse practitioner (NP) …
