Makara Journal of Health Research

Background: Given the extensive use of e-learning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, a validated instrument is deemed important for continuous evaluation. This study aimed to measure health profession education students’ satisfaction toward the e-learning process within all health sciences cluster (HSC) courses, following further validation of the satisfaction scale for the e-learning process.

Methods: A cross-sectional study using an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted to validate the 29-item Indonesian version of the satisfaction scale for the e-learning process. That the validated tool was used to measure 2,471 students’ satisfaction toward the e-learning process.

Advising Physiology Students: Perceptions From The Programs, Anne R. Crecelius, Patrick L. Crosswhite Sep 2020

Advising Physiology Students: Perceptions From The Programs, Anne R. Crecelius, Patrick L. Crosswhite

Health and Sport Science Faculty Publications

Academic advising outcomes can be linked to both student success and retention. Yet relatively little is known specifically related to advising in physiology programs. Pro- fessional organizations dedicated to academic advising in general, and more specifically advising future health professional students exist, yet, whether current physiology programs utilize these resources remains unknown, as does a number of other demographic informa- tion about advising in physiology programs. Here we present data gathered from a sample of physiology educators to inform what current advising practices of physiology students are. Forty-five re- spondents from a variety of institutions and programs provided information on …

A Flavor Perception Game Designed To Introduce Basic Chemical Sensation Of Taste Modalities To Undergraduate Nursing And Exercise Sciences Students, Angela L. Mahaffey Aug 2019

A Flavor Perception Game Designed To Introduce Basic Chemical Sensation Of Taste Modalities To Undergraduate Nursing And Exercise Sciences Students, Angela L. Mahaffey

Nursing: School of Nursing Faculty Publications and Other Works

The Flavor Perception Game was designed with the goals of developing an interactive and hands-on activity, providing a platform to review chemical senses of the five tastes, promoting student investment in the course material, and providing a basis for discussion on chemical senses of the five tastes. Knowledge of taste sensation is useful for nursing and exercise sciences students, as human physiology is integral to both baccalaureate curricula. The game is inexpensive, easy to incorporate into a 50-minute lecture period, and free of chocolate allergens. Student participants (N=34) tasted three candies and completed a voluntary anonymous poll regarding their detection …

A "Clarion" Call For Embracing Ipe As The Status Quo For Preparing Health Professionals To Engage In Interprofessional Health Research, Kimberly Adams Tufts Jan 2016

A "Clarion" Call For Embracing Ipe As The Status Quo For Preparing Health Professionals To Engage In Interprofessional Health Research, Kimberly Adams Tufts

Nursing Faculty Publications

Complex health conditions and the social-economic determinants that contribute to disease and injury incidence, prevalence, and health inequalities require multifaceted evidence-based interventions that only interprofessional research teams who collaborate across traditional disciplinary lines can generate. Interprofessionally driven and derived research evidence is the method of du jour. Nonetheless as a whole, health professionals who are often members of interprofessional health research teams are products of educational systems wherein they were educated in disciplinary silos. Health professionals that learn about, with, from, each other during their foundational education will be better prepared to function as interprofessional research team members. With the …

A Comparison Of Learning Styles Among Seven Health Professions: Implications For Optometric Education, Patrick C. Hardigan, Stanley R. Cohen

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Educational research and development efforts are most often directed at the improvement of teaching while neglecting students’ learning styles. Besides being marginally effective, an exclusive focus on improving teaching methods may lead to reinforcement of inappropriate and nontransferable learning strategies. As such, this study is being undertaken to determine if differences in personality style exist among health profession students. This retrospective-descriptive study tested the null hypothesis “there is no difference in personality traits between osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, dental medicine, optometry and occupational therapy students.” Differences as well as similarities were discovered across all seven professions. Implications …
