Abstract:

Introduction: Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation (MIH) is one of qualitative DED. MIH is increasing dramatically in the new generations, which is considered to be challenging for the majority of dentists. MIH was found to be prevalent in 14.2% of the world's population, with the high incidence 18% in South America and the least (10.9%) in Africa. This study was carried out to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of graduated Egyptian dentists' group regarding MIH condition and compare the outcome information among different dental specialists.

Material and methods: A google based questionnaire based on previously validated published papers distributed electronically …

Antibacterial Effect Of Azadirachta Indica (Neem Extract) And Chlorhexidine As Cavity Disinfectants In Primary Teeth In A Group Of Egyptian Children (A Randomized Clinical Trial), Maha Samy Elhabbak, Norhan El-Dokky, Manal Elsheikh, Eman Alaa

Future Dental Journal

Introduction: The prevention and control of caries requires the eradication of cariogenic microorganisms that produce acids responsible for reducing the pH and starting the demineralization process. With the increasing incidence of drug resistance in the prevalent pathogens and an associated risk with chemotherapeutic agents, it is essential to find an alternative to existing drugs.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of neem extract and 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) as cavity disinfectants in the reduction of total viable count in Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) in children.

Subjects and Methods: The study included two test …

Evaluation Of Remaining Dentin Thickness After Manual And Rotary Instrumentation In Primary Molars Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography. (An In-Vitro Study), Nada Ashraf Eldemery, Osama Elshehawy, Rania Abdulla Nasr, Mahmoud Mohammed Badr Mar 2022

Evaluation Of Remaining Dentin Thickness After Manual And Rotary Instrumentation In Primary Molars Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography. (An In-Vitro Study), Nada Ashraf Eldemery, Osama Elshehawy, Rania Abdulla Nasr, Mahmoud Mohammed Badr

Future Dental Journal

Aim: To compare the radicular dentin thickness before and after instrumentation by manual stainless-steel (K-files) versus rotary files (AF™ Baby File) at coronal, middle, and apical thirds using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT).

Materials and Methods: Forty roots of extracted mandibular primary molars were collected, and randomly and equally divided into 2 groups. Manual Group was prepared by K-files, and Rotary Group was prepared by rotary AF™ Baby File system. Samples were decapitated and stabilized in epoxy resin blocks. Samples were subjected to CBCT scan before and after instrumentation for radicular dentin thickness evaluation at 3 measuring points; apical, …

10-Minute Ebd: Is Fluoride Varnish Safe And Effective?, Sara Toema Bds, Dds Feb 2022

10-Minute Ebd: Is Fluoride Varnish Safe And Effective?, Sara Toema Bds, Dds

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This 10-Minute EBD column addresses a common clinical scenario where a parent questions the safety and efficacy of fluoride varnish for preventing dental decay in a pediatric patient. Conducting a 10-minute Evidence-Based Dentistry (EBD) literature search, the author explores the available evidence, pathways, and resources. The search includes Google, systematic reviews from Cochrane Library and Epistemonikos, and the American Dental Association (ADA) Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry database. The results confirm the safety and efficacy of 2.26% fluoride varnish, preventing 43% of caries in permanent teeth and 37% in primary teeth. The moderate-level evidence supports recommending fluoride varnish application, aligning with …

Threshold Levels Of Patient And Parent Esthetic Concern In The Mixed Dentition, Justin Josell Jan 2022

Threshold Levels Of Patient And Parent Esthetic Concern In The Mixed Dentition, Justin Josell

Theses and Dissertations

Purpose: The mixed dentition is a period of unique dental changes for developing children and their parents. The purpose of this study is to determine threshold levels of concern regarding diastema spacing and angulation of maxillary incisors during the “Ugly Duckling Stage” in pediatric patients and their parents.

Methods: This study is modeled as a cross sectional-survey among pediatric patients and parents. The surveys contain photographs of a sex-neutral, mixed-dentition smile with variations of midline spacing and incisal angulation which randomly differ in quantifiable values. Participants were asked to rate each photograph on a visual analog scale.

Results: The interaction …

Effect Of Moderate Sedation Regimen (Diazepam, Meperidine, And Hydroxyzine) Dosages On Patient Behavior And Outcome Of Sedation In Pediatric Dentistry: A Retrospective Study, Taibah M A M J Albaker

Theses and Dissertations

Purpose: To determine if behavior at consult visit and sedation medication dosages are associated with the success of sedation visits and patient’s behavior using the diazepam, meperidine, and hydroxyzine (DMH) regimen.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of 324 VCU Pediatric Dentistry Department patients who underwent 404 moderate conscious sedation visits with DMH regimen from April 2017 to June 2022. Sedation visits were graded as “Successful” or “Unsuccessful” and “Good” or “Poor behavior.” The primary variables of interest included Frankl behavior at consult visit and the sedation medication dosages. Logistic regression models were used to determine if these factors …
