Considerable research is currently being directed toward discovering means of controlling insects other than by applying insecticides. There are several promising concepts of control which minimize the use of insecticides and one of these is the use of sterilizing techniques. Some emphasis is currently being placed on the development of chemosterilant techniques. Many of the studies have been concerned with the screening of potentially active chemicals, whereas other research has dealt with the efficacy of field application.
