The study investigated multimedia technologies utilisation as a correlate of lecturers’ teaching effectiveness in colleges of education in south west, Nigeria. . This is for the purpose of ascertaining the relationship and contribution of multimedia technologies to lecturers’ teaching effectiveness in Nigerian colleges of education. The descriptive research design was adopted, while a multi-stage sampling procedure was used in the study. Stratified sampling technique was used to select colleges of education and simple random sampling method was employed to select lecturers from the selected colleges of education. Experience Of An Academic Library During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Mathias Gabriel Kasa, Abdulsalam Yusuf

The study shared the experience of an academic library during the COVID-19 pandemic in a Nigerian University. The study was a descriptive survey to purposively sample 2687 subscribers to the library social media platform “the Telegram” used to disseminate library services. The findings revealed that there were more males (83%) than female (17%) subscribers, a total of 446 information resources were disseminated through provision of their links (402), as pdf (31) and Jpeg (8). This paper presents the experience of eight Irish academic libraries from the Technological Higher Education Association (THEA) from March – August 2020 while delivering library services during the COVID-19 pandemic. It presents a snapshot of their experience at this time outlining the challenges faced by libraries in closing their doors and pivoting to delivering library services only. For much of this time library buildings were closed to students thereby making, study desks, group spaces, PCs, access to collections and to library staff at information desks unavailable. ABSTRACT

Electronic resources are transforming most academic library systems and how students view and use these information sources is critical. The study thus explored students’ perceptions and practices regarding the use of electronic resources in public university libraries in Ghana. The study adopted the descriptive research design, and the quantitative research approach was used; hence questionnaires were the main instrument employed for data collection. A total of 537 students were conveniently sampled from six public universities. Diversity is a core value of the American Library Association and diversity standards including cultural competencies have been adopted by the Association of College and Research Libraries. Nevertheless, academic libraries still have obstacles to overcome to embody these principles. Minorities continue to be underrepresented in the field and many encounter barriers within library cultures where cultural competency is lacking and micro aggressions are pervasive and invisible to many white colleagues. This study examined how effective the ICT gadgets are used in securing books in academic libraries and what technological approach the libraries will adopt in the future to ensure books are secured from mutilation and theft. The study was also to understand why students steal or mutilate books. A semi-structured interview was the qualitative research design used to collect data from six librarians. It was discovered that the libraries had adopted the use of ICT security gadgets like Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, surveillance cameras, self-service machine, magnetic strips. This article discusses our implementation of an Elastic cluster to address our search, search administration and indexing needs, how it integrates in our technology infrastructure, and finally takes a close look at the way that we built a reusable, dynamic search engine that powers our digital repository search. We cover the lessons learned with our early implementations and how to address them to lay the groundwork for a scalable, networked search environment that can also be applied to alternative search engines such as Solr.
