Asked to launch a faculty writing circle, our Center joined faculty to shape its mission and give members a “safe space,” a “source of accountability” (Nole, Hart, Soled, 2010), and writing support. We will report on milestones, resulting publications and presentations, library collaboration, and university wide writing initiatives showing the circle's evolution into a community of practice and how it has “harnessed the multiplier effects of collaborative processes...building upon informal networks within entities” (Nagy & Burch, 2009). By comparing this circle to those at other universities, we also will explore strategies and conditions that stimulate scholarly writing and benefit stakeholders. …

One hundred and thirty six faculty members at IPFW have been equipped with iPads and tasked with innovation in teaching and learning. How have our librarians learned to support these technological pioneers (and join in on the fun)? We'll tell you how we acquired iPads, gauged faculty needs, developed app-specific training modules, and built tech-based librarian-faculty partnerships. Unpacking Mckenzie’S And Howard’S Antidotes To Plagiarism With Processes, Resources, And Assignments, Ludwika Goodson, Shannon Johnson

An instructional designer who has provided support to faculty and a librarian who has provided support to students will share their analysis of research findings to unpack McKenzie’s “antidotes” to plagiarism and Howard’s use of patch writing for learning. Implications of the research will include discussion of more recent findings from The Citation Project and an examination of the role of teachers, assignments, and the Wikipedia paradigm in influencing student behaviors.

New technologies offer new opportunities for innovation and engagement. At IPFW, a cohort program put iPads in the hands faculty members and librarians alike. By repurposing trusty library concepts such as information and technological literacy, scholarly communication, and collection curation to fit the paradigm of iPads and apps, we created new collaborations, new educational tools, and a higher profile across our campus. This poster will present the tools we used and the best practices we developed while persuading a new generation of faculty members that teaching, learning, and technology are enhanced when the library is involved.

The Ontulili Literacy Project is an innovative literacy initiative whose mission is to establish a community library, an environment that will foster multiple literacies, academic success,and community development in the Ontulili region, situated in Eastern Kenya. In today's competitive job market, many working adults are returning to graduate school with rusty information literacy and computer skills. Before You Write: Six Keys to Success was designed to re-introduce returning adult students to the basic skills they will need for success in a graduate program. These six modules are self-paced and utilize real world scenario based assessments. In this session, a librarian and an informatics professor will discuss the inception and implementation of this collaborative information literacy/informatics initiative.
