Recognizing The Assemblage: Palestinian Bedouin Of The Naqab In Dialectic With Israeli Law, Victor Nasser Rego
Recognizing The Assemblage: Palestinian Bedouin Of The Naqab In Dialectic With Israeli Law, Victor Nasser Rego
PhD Dissertations
In the five case studies, we examine how Israel, as a collection of individuated interests given expression in the form a state, is in a dialectic of recognition with the Naqab Bedouin community. Recognition happens on a few registers. Palestinians from the Naqab seek recognition for their particular identity and lifeways. They seek legal recognition for their living spaces. And they seek these things from the Israeli state, the sovereign. But the struggle for recognition from the sovereign is fraught, particularly in settler colonial situations like this one, in part because it pivots around a particular identity for which autonomy …

Trial Of The Rosenbergs: An Account, Douglas O. Linder
Trial Of The Rosenbergs: An Account, Douglas O. Linder
Faculty Works
The Rosenberg Trial is the sum of many stories: a story of betrayal, a love story, a spy story, a story of a family torn apart, and a story of government overreaching. As is the case with many famous trials, it is also the story of a particular time: the early 1950's with its cold war tensions and headlines dominated by Senator Joseph McCarthy and his demagogic tactics. The Manhattan Project was the name given to the top-secret effort of Allied scientists to develop an atomic bomb. One of the Manhattan Project scientists working in Los Alamos was a British …
The Death Penalty And Due Process In Biblical Law, Richard H. Hiers
The Death Penalty And Due Process In Biblical Law, Richard H. Hiers
UF Law Faculty Publications
The first part of this article reviews biblical texts that have been (or could plausibly be) read as condemning or repudiating capital punishment. The next, and necessarily more detailed and extensive part, discusses the many texts that explicitly call for, or illustrate application of the death penalty. This section also describes the different prescribed methods for executing offenders, identifies the persons assigned responsibility for carrying out executions, and examines biblical rationales for capital punishment A third part describes a variety of biblical provisions that, using modern legal terminology, may be said to afford certain due process procedures and protections. The …

In Section I of this article, I will describe the events that led to the current controversy. In Section II, I will discuss whether the content of historic documents can be classified as cultural property. In Section III, I will consider whether control of the content of these documents interferes with intellectual freedom. In Section IV, I will discuss the intellectual property arguments raised by owners and interpreters of the Scrolls. Finally, in Section V, I will propose standards for access to, and preservation of, historic documents.
