From its opening in October, 1859, the Law School of the University of Michigan has been fortunate in the continuity of the service of the members of its faculty. The original faculty consisted of that remarkable trio, James V. Campbell, Charles I. Walker and Thomas M. Cooley. Instruction was given by lecture, and almost continuously for twenty-five years those three continued to expound the principles of the law to the students who flocked to the school.

In a study of British labor, Andre Philip contrasted what he termed "le Trade Unionisme'' of England with les syndicats professionels of France. In accordance with action taken at the July Convention of the Washington State Bar Association, the Board of Governors appointed a committee (Paul P. Ashley of Seattle, chairman) on Judicial Administration to concern itself with the matters considered and reported upon by the section on Judicial Administration of the American Bar Association. This committee divided itself into sections, and to each was assigned one of the subjects under consideration, including Pre-trial Procedure, Improvement in the Law of Evidence, Trial Practice and Administrative Agencies and Tribunals. Germany's National Socialist regime has prided itself on its ability to maintain peaceful employer-employee relations at a time when other countries of the world are seriously troubled by industrial disturbances. The German government has actively intervened to see that neither employers nor workers overstep bounds set for them by Nazi social and economic policies. Dr. Robert Ley, head of the German Labor Front, has said that the government owes its success in this field to measures that are a "healthy combination of freedom and compulsion."
