A growing number of legal educators are calling for greater attention to leadership development as an element of legal education at American law schools. Some make the case directly in the name of leadership education. As the population of individuals with disabilities is rapidly aging, organizations face new challenges inperson-centered care, especially in residential facilities where their caregivers are not family members butindividuals with diverse cultural backgrounds and limited understanding of American culture. There aremany organizations which offer a range of services to individuals with disabilities, including communitybasedresidential settings where caregivers work with adults to increase independence in daily living skilldevelopment, behavior management, personal care, medication administration, and other services andactivities. This Essay consists of an invitation to participate in conversations about the future of legal education in ways that integrate rather than distinguish several threads of concern and revision that have emerged over the last decade. Conversations about the future of legal education necessarily include conversations about the future of law practice, legal services, and law itself. Why do firms usually make, not buy, their chief executive officers (CEOs)? Public corporations hire their CEOs from within the firm 78% of the time. They do so although earlier studies have found no clear evidence that internal hires perform better than external ones. So why do firms prefer them? Few scholars have focused on this simple question.

The reason why firms favor internal candidates matters not only in its own right, but also for an overlooked reason: it informs the controversial question of executive compensation. Currently board-compensation committees look to peer benchmarks to set executive pay. But, taking cues …
