Kinesiology Department Chairs’ Perceptions Of Their Training And Preparation, Kason O’Neil
Kinesiology Department Chairs’ Perceptions Of Their Training And Preparation, Kason O’Neil
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Department chairs are responsible for leading academic departments in higher education. These individuals regularly make important decisions regarding such things as managing faculty and academic programming, overseeing budgets, and supporting student needs. Despite these responsibilities, many people become department chairs without receiving formal leadership training. This study explored how kinesiology department chairs across the United States viewed their preparation for the role and the importance of leadership training. A total of 111 department chairs completed an online survey about their background, previous training, and the importance of training for different administrative responsibilities. The results showed that most chairs had little …

Student-Athlete Flourishing In Intercollegiate Athletics: A Mixed Methods Study, James Hines
Student-Athlete Flourishing In Intercollegiate Athletics: A Mixed Methods Study, James Hines
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Comprehending the complexities associated with student-athlete well-being while competing on campus is important for both institutions of higher education and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Studies relating to student-athlete well-being have researched many different areas such as suicide prevention (Gross et al., 2020), mental health treatments (Ryan et al.,2018), and injury recovery (Martin et al., 2021). Few studies have examined student-athlete flourishing which focuses on helping individuals thrive and reach their greatest potential. This study employs an explanatory sequential mixed method design to examine student-athlete flourishing along with factors associated with student-athlete flourishing. Survey data (N=89) provided insight on …

Undergraduate Curriculum Council Minutes
The Undergraduate Curriculum Council met on September 24, 2025, to review and approve multiple curriculum proposals across Early Childhood Education and Geosciences. The council approved the previous meeting’s minutes before considering two new Early Childhood Education courses—ECED 3125, designed to strengthen lesson‑planning preparation, and ECED 4160, a STEM‑focused course aligned with updated NAEYC standards. Members also approved a non‑substantive curriculum revision to the Early Care & Education concentration, adding the new courses, incorporating special education and advocacy offerings, eliminating advisor‑approved electives in favor of free electives to reduce CPOS issues, and removing the minor requirement. In Geosciences, three new courses—GEOS …

Trans* Student Experiences In Higher Education, Megan Chaffee, Deborah King
New York Journal of Student Affairs
This paper reviews literature on trans* students' experiences in higher education, examining their obstacles and institutional approaches to inclusion. The study investigates challenges regarding chosen names and pronouns, access to facilities, extracurricular involvement, and the impact of increasing anti-trans* legislation. Despite growing visibility, trans* students continue to report harassment, discrimination, and a decreased sense of belonging. The paper explores current Title IX interpretations and recommends that higher education administrators develop inclusive policies, enhance professional development, and create supportive campus environments that foster trans* students' academic success and overall well-being.

Barriers To Success In Higher Education For Second-Generation Caribbean American Men, Leonard S. Breton
Barriers To Success In Higher Education For Second-Generation Caribbean American Men, Leonard S. Breton
Theses and Dissertations
While the United States may be progressing, second-generation Caribbean American men, those with at least one foreign-born parent (US Census Bureau, 2016), are a population that, despite literature addressing benefits and detriments of their cultural experiences, still warrants continued examination through empirical testing (Lyttle et al., 2011). These students have a range of factors that make them nontraditional students. Challenges such as racism, sexual and ethnic identity, and generational status in this country can be compounded when cultural perspectives of immigrant families are factored in. Caribbean American men are guided by learned behaviors and cultural traditions that influence training and …

This study investigates student satisfaction in online learning environments at the University of North Florida (UNF), with a focus on how satisfaction levels have fluctuated between the peak-pandemic and post-pandemic periods. Utilizing a combination of descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, the research examines the relative importance and satisfaction ratings of various educational factors, including demographic influences such as gender, race, and academic program. By creating a composite measure of overall student satisfaction, this study provides a comprehensive analysis of the factors that most significantly impact student experiences in online courses. Findings highlight the critical role of both satisfaction and importance …
Undergraduate Students' Perceptions Of Philanthropy, Importance Of Affinity-Based Giving And Impact On Student Giving, Kristine Herrington
Undergraduate Students' Perceptions Of Philanthropy, Importance Of Affinity-Based Giving And Impact On Student Giving, Kristine Herrington
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
As technology continues to advance, and alumni donor numbers decline, fundraising professionals are exploring new ways to encourage alumni to give back to their alma mater and continue building a strong donor pipeline. With a myriad of economic and political factors contributing to increased and inflated costs for colleges and universities, and students alike, maintaining a steady pipeline of donors to ensure ongoing philanthropic support is important. As budgetary concerns and funding cuts continue to work their way into the higher education landscape, college and university annual giving departments are increasingly tasked with exploring student philanthropy programs (SPPs) on campus …
