Detection And Control Of Small Civilian Uavs, Matthew Peacock Jan 2014

Detection And Control Of Small Civilian Uavs, Matthew Peacock

Theses : Honours

With the increasing proliferation of small civilian Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), the threat to critical infrastructure (CI) security and privacy is now widely recognised and must be addressed. These devices are easily available at a low cost, with their usage largely unrestricted allowing users to have no accountability. Further, current implementations of UAVs have little to no security measures applied to their control interfaces. To combat the threat raised by small UAVs, being aware of their presence is required, a task that can be challenging and often requires customised hardware.

This thesis aimed to address the threats posed by the …

The Effect Of Gamma Radiation On Fibre Bragg Grating Sensors When Used As Radiation Dosimeters, Des Baccini

Theses : Honours

The effects of Gamma Radiation on Fibre Bragg Gratings (FBGs), when used as a radiation dosimeter, was proposed. The focus of this study centred on the FBG performance, and in particular the Bragg Wavelength Shift (BWS) whilst being exposed to ionizing radiation. Current research suggests that certain types of fibres manufactured by varying methods produce different results. The different responses to exposure from gamma irradiation between Germanium (Ge) doped optical fibres, with and without Hydrogen loading, along with the standard SMF-28 fibre with Hydrogen, were used and results noted and compared to previous work. The FBG’s in each fibre were …

A Design In Interfacing The Mc68hc11 To The Amd Am29f010 Flash Memory Chips, David H. Hands Jan 1997

A Design In Interfacing The Mc68hc11 To The Amd Am29f010 Flash Memory Chips, David H. Hands

Theses : Honours

In many environments, motion, vibration and contamination to the Secondary Storage Devices such as hard drives can cause data to become unreadable or even lost. Elimination of these types of magnetic drives, incorporating its replacement with a Solid State Memory Storage Device would provide an invaluable solution for these type of environments. If a secondary storage system could replace these electro-mechanical disk drive systems incorporating a Solid State Secondary Storage Device such as the Flash Memory Integrated Chips, an increase in the speed of reading from milli-seconds to nano-seconds would transpire as well as providing a robust Secondary Storage Device. …

Growth And Properties Of Chemically Deposited Cds Thin Films, Edward A. Gluszak Jan 1996

Growth And Properties Of Chemically Deposited Cds Thin Films, Edward A. Gluszak

Theses : Honours

Polycrystalline thin films of undoped CdS and In doped CdS (i.e. CdS:In) have been deposited by chemical bath on glass slides and high purity silicon wafers. The effect of different processing conditions (e.g. substrate temperature, doping and air annealing) on film growth, optical transmittance and electrical properties were correlated with the film microstrucutre. The mechanism of chemical bath deposition of CdS thin films from the ammonia-thiourea system is studied. The influence of reaction parameters (i.e. concentration of reactants and pH) on film growth were determined and modeled. Thin film growth is thermally activated with an energy ≈ 5 x 10 …
