Inventing Around Edison’S Lamp Patent: The Role Of Patents In Stimulating Downstream Development And Competition, Ron D. Katznelson, John Howells Feb 2018

Inventing Around Edison’S Lamp Patent: The Role Of Patents In Stimulating Downstream Development And Competition, Ron D. Katznelson, John Howells

Ron D. Katznelson

We provide the first detailed empirical study of inventing around patent claims. The enforcement of Edison’s incandescent lamp patent in 1891-1894 stimulated a surge of patenting. Most of these later patents disclosed inventions around the Edison patent. Some of these patents introduced important new technology in their own right and became prior art for new fields, indicating that invention around patents contributes to dynamic efficiency. Contrary to widespread contemporary understanding, the Edison lamp patent did not suppress technological advance in electric lighting. The market position of General Electric (“GE”), the Edison patent-owner, weakened through the period of this patent’s enforcement.

Fabrication Of Micro-Meltblown Filtration Media Using Parallel Plate Die Design, Mohammad A. Hassan Jan 2016

Fabrication Of Micro-Meltblown Filtration Media Using Parallel Plate Die Design, Mohammad A. Hassan

Mohammad Abouelreesh Hassan

Meltblown fibers are typically produced using a die technology based on the slot concept, an extension of the sheet die technology with a series of holes substituting the center rectangular slot of the sheet die. While this prevalent technology has met with considerable success, an economical, facile design would be desirable. In this study a new parallel plate die concept to fabricate micro-meltblown fibers that offers simplicity, ease of use, and low cost was examined. The new die concept had parallel plates forming channels for polymer melt to flow through with a set of air holes surrounding them. This die …

Adrian Bonilla-Petriciolet

This study reports the multicomponent adsorption of dye AB25, nickel (Ni2+) and zinc (Zn2+) ions on an activated carbon using binary mixtures of metal and dye, and packed bed columns at different operating conditions. Design parameters of packed bed adsorption columns have been calculated using the breakthrough curves and Thomas model, and an analysis has been performed to determine the effect and magnitude of the synergistic adsorption on the design parameters and adsorbent performance. Results showed that there is a strong synergistic adsorption of heavy metals on activated carbon caused by the presence of dye AB25 in binary mixtures. The …

Non-Linear Spectral Unmixing Of Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3 ) Data, Keshav Dev Singh, Ramakrishnan Desikan

Innovative Research Publications IRP India

Most of the approaches to solve the unmixing problem are based on the Linear Mixing Model (LMM) which is questionable. Therefore, nonlinear spectral model is generally used to study the effects of multiple scattering in the complex surfaces. In this paper, we have demonstrated the application of Radiative Transform Equation (RTE) based Hapke multi scattering model. The Hapke model based non-linear spectral unmixing is carried out on a Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3 ) data. The values of six non-linear Hapke's model parameters are estimated using a MATLAB based algorithm after optimizing the Hapke corrected M3-Endmembers and modeled spectra through minimum …

Modification In Weighted Clustering Algorithm For Faster Clustering Formation By Considering Absolute Attributes Of Mobile Nodes And Greedy Method For Role Selection Of Mobile Nodes In Manet, Vijayanand Kumar, Rajesh Kumar Yadav

Innovative Research Publications IRP India

Wirelessly allocated mobile nodes which are configured in a geographically adjacent to each other can form cluster by applying rules on the mobile nodes. Each cluster family have different members with different assigned roles such as cluster head, cluster members, gateway members and ordinary nodes which can perform roles of any three mentioned roles as the time progresses based on absolute and relative attribute information. Absolute attributes of mobile nodes can be mobility, energy consumed and entropy of the mobile node. Relative attributes can be considered as neighbour information and sum of distances of neighbours etc. Relative attributes are the …

Energy Aware Forwarding In Content Centric Based Multihop Wireless Ad Hoc Networks, Rana Asif Rehman, Byung-Seo Kim Dec 2015

Energy Aware Forwarding In Content Centric Based Multihop Wireless Ad Hoc Networks, Rana Asif Rehman, Byung-Seo Kim

Rana Asif Rehman

Content centric networking (CCN) is a newly proposed futuristic Internet paradigm in which communication depends on the decoupling of content names from their locations. In CCN-based multihop wireless ad hoc networks, the participating nodes show dynamic topology, intermittent connectivity, channels fluctuation, and severe constraints such as limited battery power. In the case of traffic congestion, the affected nodes die early owing to the shortage of battery power. Consequently, all pending request entries are also destroyed, which further degrades the network performance as well as the node working lifetime. In this study, we have proposed a novel energy aware transmission scheme …

Process Parameters And Foaming Agents Used In Manufacturing Of Aluminium Metallic Foams: A Review, Sri Ram Vikas K.,, N. Raghu Ram,, Ch. Kishore Reddy,, V.V. Sridhara Raju

Innovative Research Publications IRP India

Porous metals and metallic foams are composite materials in which one phase is gaseous and another phase is solid metal. The mechanical behavior of these materials depends mainly on the mechanical properties of the solid metallic phase, the structural configuration of the solid and the density of the composite ρc, relative to the density of the solid phase ρs. The primary distinction between a porous metal and metallic foam is the relative density, metal gas composites with a relative density (ρc/ρs) above 0.3 are generally considered porous materials, while those with a relative density below 0.3 are generally considered to …
