Remedial Course Enrollments And Student Outcomes In Maine’S Public Higher Education Institutions, Amy F. Johnson Phd
Remedial Course Enrollments And Student Outcomes In Maine’S Public Higher Education Institutions, Amy F. Johnson Phd
Higher Education and College Readiness
College readiness remains a large policy challenge for both K-‐12 schools and higher education institutions. Students who need to pursue remedial coursework before being able to enroll in introductory college requirements face financial and logistical challenges that create barriers to degree progression. In an effort to gain additional information about the scale and context of the problem the University of Maine System and Maine Community College Systems were required to prepare four annual reports with information about the students entering their colleges directly from a Maine high school. These reports provided information on the overall proportion of these students who …

Sustainability: A Paradigmatic Shift In Entrepreneurship Education, Frances M. Amatucci, Nelson Pizarro, Jay Friedlander
New England Journal of Entrepreneurship
This article proposes that sustainability represents a paradigmatic shift from traditional perspectives in entrepreneurship education. This “call to action” argues that it is imperative for entrepreneurship scholars and practitioners to add sustainability to academic curricula and consulting support activities. The evolutionary development of entrepreneurship from the traditional profit-oriented perspective to sustainable entrepreneurship is described. A case study of an academic institution, which has successfully incorporated sustainability principles into its curriculum, is provided. This article is among the first that details the importance of a paradigmatic shift because “business as usual” is no longer effective in the twenty-first century.

Within minutes of reading her email, I not only responded with an enthusiastic “Yes!” but went so far as to volunteer the resources of the Southern Utah University Honors Program to get things started. Nestled among 5 national parks in southwestern Utah, I felt our campus would be a natural focal point for the kind of program Joan envisioned. Within weeks we had laid the groundwork for a proof-of-concept pilot project at nearby Bryce Canyon National Park. Little did I know at …
