The National Socialists And How They Ostracized An Entire Population, Kathryn Weber

Geifman Prize in Holocaust Studies

In this paper, I analyze how the National Socialists ostracized the Jews before the start of World War II. I also discuss the importance of teaching students about this topic in US schools in a way that promotes historical inquiry, historical empathy, and critical thinking skills. There is an attached lesson plan that I did with 6th-grade students to provide an example of one way to teach students about the Holocaust. Here is my thesis for the paper:

"By examining laws passed by the Reichstag, the organization of the ghettos and the camps, the German education system, correspondence between …

Conservatives In The Classroom: Targeted Or Apathetic?, Emma Nordmeyer

Sociology: Student Scholarship & Creative Works

In the 21st Century U.S., college and university classrooms have become a hotbed of political debate. Conservative students decry "liberal indoctrination" in the liberal arts setting. In this paper, I analyze attitudes towards classes across the political spectrum. I found that while liberals have more positive views of class, conservatives have a wider range of attitudes. This study points to divisions within the right wing.

Much More Than Storage: Re-Positioning The Repository As A Cornerstone Of Campus Collaboration, Amanda Makula, Connie Ghinazzi

Library and Information Science: Faculty Scholarship & Creative Works

“Repository” belies the dynamic potential of the IR. Much more than a publishing mechanism for campus scholarship and an archive of college history, it is an opportunity to partner with nearly every entity across campus in order to advance the institution’s mission and goals, to build community by uniting disparate groups around a common purpose, and to call attention to the library’s unique ability to facilitate campus-wide collaboration. More specifically, the IR can play an important role in recruiting new students, strengthening institutional engagement among alumni, enhancing partnerships with the surrounding community, and more. Gendered Pronouns In The Classroom (August 24, 2015)

Center for Faculty Enrichment

Gendered Pronouns in the Classroom- Monday 8/24 4-5pm in Gävle Room 1

Last spring, the college community asserted that it will be inclusive of people of all genders. Since this affirmation, members of the campus community have requested professional development about the basic ideas in this discussion ("What is the difference between sex and gender?") as well as techniques for being inclusive ("How can I avoid misgendering a student or respond when others do?"). In this session, we will share foundational vocabulary, develop strategies for inclusion around gendered pronouns, and hold a Q&A with a couple of students about …
