วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ของแม่ผู้อพยพจากสงครามเวียดนามกับลูกชายเควียร์เวียดนามพลัดถิ่นในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาในตัวบทคัดสรร โดยมุ่งสำรวจให้เห็นบทบาทของบาดแผลที่เชื่อมร้อยคนสองรุ่นเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน รวมทั้งการแสวงหาพื้นที่แห่งการเยียวยาสำหรับกลุ่มคนชายขอบ กลุ่มตัวบทคัดสรรได้แก่ On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous (2019) ของ โอเชียน วอง (Ocean Vuong) The Magic Fish (2020) ของ จุง เล เหงวียน (Trung Le Nguyen) และ Things We Lost to the Water (2021) ของ เอริค เหงวียน (Eric Nguyen) จากการศึกษาพบว่า ตัวบทคัดสรรมิเพียงถ่ายทอดบาดแผลจากสงครามเวียดนามซึ่งทำให้ตัวละครแม่สูญเสียและถูกตัดขาดจากรากเหง้าในบ้านเกิด พร้อมทั้งต้องเผชิญกับอคติทางชาติพันธุ์ เพศ และชนชั้นเรื่อยมา แต่ในขณะเดียวกันก็นำเสนอกระบวนการเรียนรู้บาดแผลจากสงครามเวียดนามของลูกชายเควียร์ อันนำมาสู่การทำความเข้าใจสภาวะพลัดถิ่นของตนเองในฐานะชาวอเมริกันเชื้อสายเวียดนาม นอกจากนั้นตัวบทคัดสรรยังนำเสนอบาดแผลจากการมีเพศวิถีแบบเควียร์ของลูกชายอันนำมาซึ่งความรู้สึกผิดแผกในครอบครัวและชุมชนคนเวียดนาม และการถูกกดทับในสังคมอเมริกันที่ยังคงมีอคติต่อกลุ่มรักเพศเดียวกัน อย่างไรก็ดี แม้บาดแผลของแม่กับลูกชายเควียร์จะขับเน้นให้เห็นสภาวะ “ไร้บ้าน” อันเป็นประสบการณ์และอารมณ์ความรู้สึกที่ตัวละครแบ่งปันร่วมกัน แต่การเรียนรู้บาดแผลซึ่งกันและกันของตัวละครยังเป็นพลังสร้างสรรค์อันนำไปสู่การแสวงหา “บ้าน” อันเป็นพื้นที่ของการเยียวยาและเอื้อให้อัตลักษณ์พลัดถิ่นที่มีความแตกต่างหลากหลายสามารถดำรงอยู่ร่วมกันอีกด้วย

Buck’s Translation of Shui Hu Zhuan and its Effects on Her Writing Career,” Zhihui Sophia Geng focuses on Pulitzer Prize winner and Noble Laureate Pearl Sydenstricker Buck’s All Men Are Brothers, her translation of the classical Chinese novel Shui Hu Zhuan. She examines the reception of her translation and analyzes the significance of All Men Are Brothers to Buck’s literary career. By providing the first complete translation of Shui Hu Zhuan to an English-speaking audience, Buck made a significant cultural contribution to the United States and English-speaking cultural spheres. Belonging On Stage: Theatre As A Practice Of Belonging For The Syrian Diaspora In Turkey, Asma Hedi Nairi

This article is a preliminary research focusing on the role of theatre as a belonging practice for the Syrian diaspora in Turkey. Based on a qualitative and narrative research methodology, the work analyzes the experience of the Theatre Scene group and their performance of the play Outside the Flock. Building on the belonging conceptual framework presented by Yuval-Davis (2006), the work offers an overview of how theatre served as both a space and a practice of belonging for the Syrian diaspora. It contributes to the growing scholarship on diasporic arts, highlighting the specificity of the Syrian theatrical experience.

Afro-Diasporic Literatures Of The United States And Brazil: Imaginaries, Counter-Narratives, And Black Feminism In The Americas, David E. S. Beek

This dissertation explores contemporary Afro-diasporic literatures by black cultural producers in the United States and Brazil that resist, subvert, and dismantle the persistent myth of Brazilian racial democracy. From the US, I investigate John Keene’s 2015 collection of stories and novellas Counternarratives, in addition to Gayl Jones’ 2021 novel Palmares. Conversely, from Brazil, I examine Conceição Evaristo’s 2003 novel Ponciá Vicêncio, as well as the black trans musician and slam poet Bixarte’s social media performance art. In my dissertation project I intend to push the boundaries, by placing them in dialogue with each other, of both the Black Atlantic and the Hispanic Transatlantic Studies while exploring the cultural production of two groups that are generally excluded from the scholarly research done on the African Diaspora: U.S. Afro-Latinos and Afro-Argentines. While Black Atlantic Studies focuses on the Anglophone world and Hispanic Transatlantic Studies focuses on the Spanish-speaking world, they both ignore the two groups mentioned above as they complicate the boundaries of these fields by sitting at the intersections of race, language, and location.

One of the consequences of situating the U. S. as part of the circumCaribbean is that it creates an opportunity to examine important subjects—such as slavery, agricultural production, trade patterns, immigration, diaspora, travel writing and tourism—through a more comprehensive lens. Numerous slave owners had plantations in both the lower South and on the islands. Maroon culture created by runaways were common across the circumCaribbean, be they in lowland swamps or mountain retreats. This comparative study asserts the centrality of spirituality to literature that explores life in the African Diaspora. Specifically, it emphasizes the importance of spirituality both to the authors and to the lives of their characters in the novels Victoire, les saveurs et les mots (2006) by the Guadeloupian author Maryse Condé, Camwood at Crossroads (2007) by Nigerian author Femi Euba, and El color del verano (1991) by Cuban author Reinaldo Arenas. In her article "Indigeneity, Diaspora, and Ethical Turn in Anzaldúa's Borderlands/La Frontera" Hsinya Huang discusses indigeneity vis-à-vis diaspora, two concepts often used as if they were necessarily antagonistic and antithetical to one another. While in diaspora studies Native people are marginalized, Huang resituates the figure of the Native to the core of diasporic discussion by tracing the movement, migration, or scattering of Native people from their established or ancestral homeland. In his article "Positions of Sinophone Representation in Jin's (金庸) Chivalric Topography" Weijie Song examines Yong Jin's post-1949 Hong Kong chivalric imagination of imperial Beijing and beyond during the Ming-Qing Dynastic transition and the dialects of inclusive exclusion and exclusive inclusion. In Cold War Hong Kong, Jin charted a wide range of chivalric activities: intruding into the political center embodied by the Forbidden City (the "Great Within") and fleeing to peripheral regions such as Xinjiang's Islamic community, the overseas kingdom in Brunei in Southeast Asia, and an unknown place somewhere inside Yangzhou. In her article "Singapore, State Nationalism, and the Production of Diaspora" Cheryl Narumi Naruse examines The Straits Times series "Singaporean Abroad" and analyzes how conceptions of national time, space, and community are restructured by state concerns of economic survival within the era of globalization. In "Singaporean Abroad," readers find a curious amalgamation of feature writing, travel writing, and advertising about cosmopolitan, transnationally connected citizens of Singapore. In order to improve the engineering properties of soft soils, materials, such as cement and fiber, can be introduced to the soil mass. Currently, design criterion for a cement-soil mixture requires only the measurement of unconfined compressive strength. This simple measurement may not be adequate to describe the behavior that results from differing field loading conditions. A series of consolidation tests and unconfined compression tests were conducted with special attention being paid to the effects of curing time and vertical curing stress.
