In Defense Of Moving From A Music Production Curriculum To A Commercial Music Curriculum, Jeff Mccoy, Christopher Andrew Brown
In Defense Of Moving From A Music Production Curriculum To A Commercial Music Curriculum, Jeff Mccoy, Christopher Andrew Brown
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
The music industry has significantly evolved in recent years, largely due to the growth of newer forms of technology, such as distribution platforms and music production tools. With technological changes, academic institutions must understand the need to alter their curricula to better prepare students for the growing field of commercial music. Traditional music education programs emphasized classical music, music theory, and instrumental and vocal skills; however, students wanting to enter the world of commercial music need a broader range of knowledge, including business, marketing, copyright law, self-publishing, and music licensing as well as skills in operating various kinds of hardware …

Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
A history of the development and changes of ORU’s field test over the last 50 years is presented followed by previously unpublished percentile values for N=14,076 recent prepandemic (2017–2019) field-test times for the distances for 1-mile, 1.5-mile, and 2-mile field tests for college students aged 18.9 years (N=2,198; 58.3% female), 19.1 years (N=1,574; 58.0% female), and 20.5 years (N=10,304; 57.3% female) respectively. The aim of this study is to establish an updated set of standard field test times that can serve as a valuable benchmark for assessing the cardio-vascular fitness levels of college students.

Toward A Spirit-Empowered Framework For Encouraging Intellectual Conversions In Doctoral Students, Daniel D. Isgrigg
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
This article demonstrates how the five-fold gospel paradigm in Pentecostal theology can provide Spirit-empowered graduate theology students with a framework for understanding key growth moments (or intellectual conversions) in the transformational learning process that takes place in scholarly research. This five-fold paradigm utilizes the spiritual transformation concepts of conversion, sanctification, empowerment, healing, and hope correspond to intellectual conversion moments in the lives of students who are changed by their research. These five key moments can be seen as a transformational tool that allows students to be intellectually transformed by the research process.

Transitions In Collegiate Church Music Pedagogy: Developing A Pedagogy For Undergraduate Modern Worship Curriculum, Christopher Andrew Brown
Transitions In Collegiate Church Music Pedagogy: Developing A Pedagogy For Undergraduate Modern Worship Curriculum, Christopher Andrew Brown
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
Church music pedagogy has a rich history dating back to the 9th century and is rooted in scripture and ancient traditions. Changes over the centuries have been gradual with incremental transitions; however, since the introduction of pop and rock musical stylings to church settings almost sixty years ago, changes have been swift and dramatic. The advent of modern worship has left Christian higher learning institutions scrambling to find a place where the curriculum would be useful and relevant to the modern 21st century Church. This paper seeks to examine the historical background of Christian church music pedagogy while …
Developing Critical Consciousness In Students For Cultural Transformation, Carolyn F. Stubbs, Hallett Hullinger
Developing Critical Consciousness In Students For Cultural Transformation, Carolyn F. Stubbs, Hallett Hullinger
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
In this paper, we address the need for developing critical consciousness in students in institutions of learning. Grounded in Freire’s thoughts on critical pedagogy and drawing from studies and research on critical consciousness, we contend that developing students who transform culture must involve raising their level of critical awareness and increasing social engagement and critical action. This paper examines the literature on critical consciousness development and draws attention to factors that are necessary for developing critical consciousness in students. Special attention is given to creating a curriculum and school culture that result in students who are critically aware and engaged …

Re-Conceptualizing Inclusive Pedagogy In Practice In Higher Education, Marcia P. Livingston-Galloway, Andree Robinson-Neal
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
Twenty-first-century classrooms are becoming increasingly culturally, ethnically, and racially diverse and are looking more and more like microcosms. Consequently, students and some educational stakeholders are demanding the inclusion of race, culture, justice, and equality in the curricula and pushing the envelope for more inclusive pedagogy. Central to the concept of inclusive pedagogy are the values of fairness and equity. Proponents of inclusive pedagogy have indicated that numerous variables influence pedagogy, particularly inclusive pedagogy. These values have elicited concerns throughout the educational system regarding how instructors and facilitators serve all learners academic needs in their academies. However, there is no consensus …

Ten Commandments Of Teaching: A Culminating Education Project, Charlene Martin
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
During a senior capstone course in instructional methods, teacher candidates participated in a discussion regarding what the essentials are for good teaching in light of biblical principles—a discussion integrating biblical principles and content knowledge acquired as they progressed through the College of Education. Genesis 1:26-28 indicates that mankind was created to rule over God’s earth in His name. Arguably, this mandate is the basis for all civilizations and cultures. From this perspective, one purpose of school could be to give students power tools for exercising dominion; school prepares students for work and their work declares the Glory of God. As …

The Number Of Credit Hours Required For Bachelor’S Degrees At Christian Colleges And Universities, Andrew Sid Lang, Enrique F. Valderrama, Clare Ruth Holt
The Number Of Credit Hours Required For Bachelor’S Degrees At Christian Colleges And Universities, Andrew Sid Lang, Enrique F. Valderrama, Clare Ruth Holt
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
Trends in the minimum number of credit hours required to complete a bachelor’s degree have been studied at four-year public institutions and appear to have been moving steadily towards a 120-hour standard for the majority of programs. The existence of such trends at Christian institutions have not previously been investigated nor has credit hour data been collected and made publicly available. If Christian institutions are not moving towards 120 hours, as state schools are, it could signal an emerging dichotomy in higher education requirements. This paper presents both the data and the trends in the minimum number of credit hours …
