The Effects Of Eps Level And Presentation Format Of Analysts’ Forecast Deviation On Non-Professional Investors’ Investment Judgments, Clarence Goh, Prasart Jongjaroenkamol, Poh-Sun Seow Dec 2026

The Effects Of Eps Level And Presentation Format Of Analysts’ Forecast Deviation On Non-Professional Investors’ Investment Judgments, Clarence Goh, Prasart Jongjaroenkamol, Poh-Sun Seow

Research Collection School Of Accountancy

We experimentally investigate how the presentation format of the extent to which a firm's earnings per share (EPS) diverges from analysts' EPS forecasts (i.e. deviation information) and a firm's EPS level affect the investment judgments of non-professional investors (referred to hereafter as “investors”). Our results suggest that investors' investment judgments are more positive when firms with low (high) EPS levels disclose deviation information in percentage (absolute) terms. Furthermore, when the percentage of forecast deviation is held constant, investment judgments are more positive when EPS levels are high versus low if the deviation information is expressed in absolute terms. By contrast, …

How Leaders Build Employee Trust In Artificial Intelligence: Voice Opportunities, Humility, And Trust Transfer, Jack Mcguire, David De Cremer, Devesh Narayanan Dec 2026

How Leaders Build Employee Trust In Artificial Intelligence: Voice Opportunities, Humility, And Trust Transfer, Jack Mcguire, David De Cremer, Devesh Narayanan

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Artificial intelligence is increasingly central to organizational work, yet employee trust in AI remains fragile. Although prior research has primarily explained trust in AI through technological characteristics such as transparency, reliability, and accuracy, we argue that trust in AI is also shaped by the social context in which employees encounter these systems. Drawing on affect-as-information theory and social information processing theory, we develop and test a model in which leader-provided voice opportunities reduce employees’ negative affect about AI-related work experiences, thereby enhancing perceptions of leader trustworthiness and, in turn, trust in AI. We further propose that this indirect effect depends …

The Role Of Corporate Sustainability Goals In Shaping Organizational Intentions And Adoption Of Green Technologies In Small- And Medium-Sized Enterprises, Syed Zamberi Ahmad, Abdul Rahim Abu Bakar, Imane Belyamani, Manar Fawzi Bani Mfarrej

All Works

This study investigates green technology adoption (GTA) among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), focusing on the influence of corporate sustainability goals (CSG) and sustainability motivation (SM). Utilizing institutional theory, the theory of planned behavior (TPB), and resource-based view (RBV), the research highlights how SMEs integrate environmental, social, governance (ESG) and economic considerations into their CSG to enhance GTA. Addressing a gap in prior research that has largely emphasized external drivers of adoption while underexploring internal organizational mechanisms, the study conceptualizes CSG as strategic intent and models SM as a second-order construct . Temporally Rigorous And Traceable Predictive Maintenance Via Joint Labeler-Model Optimization, Maytha Al-Ali, Ahmad Alharbi Dec 2026

Temporally Rigorous And Traceable Predictive Maintenance Via Joint Labeler-Model Optimization, Maytha Al-Ali, Ahmad Alharbi

All Works

Predictive maintenance (PdM) is a critical enabler of intelligent asset management in Industry 4.0, yet many existing frameworks remain difficult to operationalize due to methodological fragmentation. Common limitations include sacrificing temporal realism and class granularity for computational expediency, decoupling labeling strategy design from model hyperparameter optimization, and insufficient support for reproducibility and deployment traceability; particularly in rare-failure regimes. To address these challenges, we propose a unified, end-to-end, and fully traceable PdM framework that jointly optimizes labeling and model parameters while enforcing strict temporal fidelity. The proposed pipeline co-optimizes the failure lookahead window () and LightGBM hyperparameters within a single Bayesian …

When The Bridge Is Not At Sea : Investigating Transfer Of Learning From Full-Mission Bridge Simulator To Navigation Training Onboard, Thammawan Phanphichit

World Maritime University Ph.D. Dissertations

This dissertation explores, through a mixed-methods approach, how fullmission bridge simulators support transfer of learning to navigation training onboard, and under what conditions transfer can be trusted. Qualitative and quantitative components were integrated across the four articles. The first study explores how key onboard training stakeholders perceive its challenges, limitations, and the possibility of reducing required sea-time. Findings show broad agreement that OBT remains important, though openness to simulator use was conditional on credible evidence that simulator-developed competence can transfer onboard. The second and third studies examine this through transfer of learning theory. A systematic review identifies elements influencing transfer …

Data Without Borders, Sovereignty Without Guarantees: Cybersecurity Risks Of Cross-Border Data Hosting In The Global South, Evidence And Policy Lessons From Mozambique, Faztudo Languisse Eng.

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

The digital transformation of public and private institutions across the Global South has produced a paradox: as states digitize government services, financial systems, and citizen records, an increasing share of this data is hosted on servers physically located in the United States, the European Union, and other developed economies. This article develops a taxonomy of the cybersecurity and sovereignty risks generated by this dependency, distinguishing deliberate risks, arising from extraterritorial legal instruments such as the United States CLOUD Act, foreign surveillance regimes, and a concentrated hyperscale cloud market, from non-deliberate risks, arising from undersea cable failures, hyperscaler outages, misconfiguration, and …

When Business Ventures Scale Faster Than People Systems: Hrd In The Ai-Enabled Start-Up Boom, Rob E. Carpenter Oct 2026

When Business Ventures Scale Faster Than People Systems: Hrd In The Ai-Enabled Start-Up Boom, Rob E. Carpenter

Human Resource Development Faculty Publications and Presentations

The surge in U.S. business formation has been accelerated by generative artificial intelligence (AI) and is often interpreted as evidence of renewed economic vitality. This perspective argues that the same trend also creates a consequential challenge for human resource development (HRD). This is because new ventures may achieve commercial reach and technical capability before developing the human systems needed to support learning, judgment, coordination, and workforce development. This temporal imbalance is theorized as venture heterochrony. Its accumulated human and organizational consequences are conceptualized as organizational formation debt. These constructs explain how AI-enabled speed can obscure weakness in knowledge …

Did College Football Betting Markets Correctly Assess Game-Shortening Rule Changes?, Kevin Krieger, Justin Davis Oct 2026

Did College Football Betting Markets Correctly Assess Game-Shortening Rule Changes?, Kevin Krieger, Justin Davis

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

Established rules and norms are standard within competitive sports. However, changes are often made to create better functioning contests or improved viewer experiences. We examine the impact of one such change on sports wagering markets. To shorten college football games, starting in 2023, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) adopted rule changes that would, in part, enable the game clock to run more frequently. This decision might create games with fewer plays, and scoring in such games might also be lower. We document the impact of these changes and question whether the sports betting markets quickly ascertained the impacts of …

How The Labor Movement And Labor Strife In Northwest Ohio In The 1930s Shaped The Structure Of American Labor, David M. Savino Oct 2026

How The Labor Movement And Labor Strife In Northwest Ohio In The 1930s Shaped The Structure Of American Labor, David M. Savino

The Journal of Economics and Politics

The labor disputes of the 1930s involved more than just the traditional relationship between management and labor. In a way, these disputes were more about long-term gains and the realization of industrial labor achieving real power and influence versus gaining short-term outcomes such as wage increases and better working conditions. For over a century, craft unionism dominated the American system regarding representation, influence, and immense control over the economy, society, and the political system. At about the same time, many industrial-type unions were forming and evolving. Many of the monumental struggles of industrial and agricultural unions took place within the …

Markets For Unverified Capability: Why Organizations Facing Real Adversarial Scrutiny Reject The Metrics Academic Ai-Security Research Relies On, Babar Khan Akhunzada

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

Governments, insurers, and defenders increasingly rely on published capability claims about AI cybersecurity agents to inform procurement, regulation, and risk assessment. Yet a striking pattern runs through the organizations with the most at stake: enterprises and technology companies deploying frontier AI agents against real production infrastructure consistently decline to publish the accuracy metrics that academic and vendor benchmarks compete to report. This paper investigates that pattern as an economic, organizational, and policy problem rather than a purely technical one. We audit eleven independently published AI cybersecurity benchmarks and deployments using a five-dimension integrity rubric and find that benchmarks relying on …

Right To The Library: Following Urban Planning Away From Stakeholder Theory, Jaime Taylor Oct 2026

Right To The Library: Following Urban Planning Away From Stakeholder Theory, Jaime Taylor

Urban Library Journal

In the field of urban planning,  a well-established and growing body of discourse encourages reconsideration of stakeholder theory. Like urban planning, librarianship has been using stakeholder theory nearly since the theory’s inception, with its prevalence accelerating since the mid-1990s. However, compared to planning, librarianship’s use of stakeholder theory has been undertheorized; in three decades, there have not been meaningful advances or critiques of stakeholder theory’s place in library management. This article will review the advent of stakeholder theory in the business management literature; distill urban planning’s criticism of the theory and ideas for moving past it; and suggest what from …

Testing Personalization In Llm-Based Mental Health Support: A Proposed Experimental Design For College Students, Tchalim P. Agninoube, Greg Williams Oct 2026

Testing Personalization In Llm-Based Mental Health Support: A Proposed Experimental Design For College Students, Tchalim P. Agninoube, Greg Williams

Annual DBA Scholars Conference

Rising student mental health demand has outpaced campus counseling capacity. This paper proposes a 2x2 between-subjects experimental design to test whether a personalized LLM-based chatbot, grounded in just-in-time adaptive intervention principles and cognitive load theory, provides better short-term anxiety reduction than a standard chatbot across stress and neutral contexts. The personalized chatbot uses wearable stress data, sleep quality, self-reported overwhelm, and support preferences to select between low-load and elaborative support paths. The design contributes a practical framework for evaluating personalization in AI-driven mental health tools and informs scalable, responsible institutional deployment.

Bridging Awareness And Action: A Multilevel Model Of Organizational Learning, Safety Climate, And Sickle Cell Trait Safety Compliance, Kimberly Snowden

Annual DBA Scholars Conference

Despite the existence of NCAA and National Athletic Trainers’ Association guidelines, preventable sickle cell trait (SCT)-related adverse events continue to occur in athletic settings. This study examines how organizational learning capacity, safety climate, leadership commitment, and individual risk perception influence compliance with SCT safety protocols and related safety outcomes. Drawing on Organizational Learning Theory, Safety Climate Theory, and the Health Belief Model, the study proposes a multilevel framework tested through an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. Findings are expected to identify organizational predictors of compliance and provide practical recommendations to strengthen SCT safety implementation and reduce preventable athlete harm.

The Paradoxes Of Mental Health Disclosure In The Workplace: What Employee Voices Reveal About Courage And Organizational Culture, Steve G. Winkel D.B.A. Oct 2026

The Paradoxes Of Mental Health Disclosure In The Workplace: What Employee Voices Reveal About Courage And Organizational Culture, Steve G. Winkel D.B.A.

Annual DBA Scholars Conference

The lived experience of mental health disclosure is deeply paradoxical. Drawing on thematic analysis of qualitative data from 572 U.S. employees with diagnosed mental health conditions — 282 of whom disclosed to a manager or HR professional — this paper presents three central paradoxes: (1) disclosure normalizes experience but does not neutralize vulnerability; (2) the same conversation produces both safety and stigma; and (3) disclosure requires courage, revealing the inadequacy of existing organizational norms. A constructivist grounded theory approach guided the inquiry. Theoretical implications for stigma management theory (Goffman, 1963) and psychological safety research (Edmondson, 1999) and practical implications for …

Hidden Thermal Signatures Reveal The Microclimatic Influence Of Scheduled Cave Tourism, Matt Rowberry, John Gunn, Andrew Smith Oct 2026

Hidden Thermal Signatures Reveal The Microclimatic Influence Of Scheduled Cave Tourism, Matt Rowberry, John Gunn, Andrew Smith

International Journal of Speleology

Tourist activity is widely recognised as a source of cave microclimate disturbance, yet visitor-induced variability is difficult to distinguish from natural environmental fluctuations. The coronavirus pandemic created a natural experiment at Poole’s Cavern, United Kingdom, in which periods of complete closure could be compared with contrasting visitor access regimes. Two years of high resolution temperature records from six monitoring points were analysed. Harmonic regression and a state space model removed deterministic diurnal cycles and lower frequency temperature variability. The remaining residual variability differed systematically among visitor access regimes and between daytime and nighttime conditions. Spectral analysis of the residuals identified …
