Understanding what a dual immersion program is and knowing the different models within the program allow parents to select which program is best suited for their students. The project explores three recommendations from Guadalupe Valdes' book, Learning and Not Learning English. The three are age-appropriate academic content, revolving door policies involving classification/ reclassification, and the importance of teacher preparation. This capstone project concentrated on the professionals working with children as part of SKC’s Early Start Intervention Program. Multiracial populations in the U.S. continue to grow and it’s important for educators to address the needs of these students. A 5-E multiracial literature lesson plan was created for second grade that incorporates KWL and Text-to-World teaching strategies.
