Information Management And Bim Standards And Supports Inventory, Ryan Dempsey, Barry Mcauley, David Burke

Tools

The Digital Standards pillar consists of industry experts who champion the benefits of common rules, guidelines, and workflows that facilitate the improvement of information flow and information management across asset life cycles. Digital standards provide a common language that can be translated to technical specifications enabling clients, designers, contractors, and facilities managers, irrespective of their preferred tools, to communicate efficiently and reduce cost, rework, and disputes. Working closely with the Digital Procurement and Digital Education and Training pillars, this pillar is developing and delivering Irish Information Management/BIM (Digital Construction) guidelines for the sector.

This report summarises existing digital construction standards, …

Center for Metropolitan Density Publications

On the University of Texas at Arlington campus, investing in green infrastructure is critical for managing stormwater and heat stress today and addressing the emerging challenges caused by a changing climate: shifting precipitation patterns, “cloudbursts” or flash floods, and more frequent and severe extreme heat events. In 2022, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency provided technical assistance to UTA as part of the tenth anniversary of the Campus RainWorks Challenge, a national design competition that advances green infrastructure design on college and university campuses across the country. This report builds on UTA’s extensive engagement with the competition and envisions the campus …

Analysis Of The Construction Waste Management Performance In Hongkong: The Public And Private Sectors Compared Using Big Data, Weisheng Lu, Xi Chen, Daniel Chi Wing Ho, Hongdi Wang Jan 2016

Analysis Of The Construction Waste Management Performance In Hongkong: The Public And Private Sectors Compared Using Big Data, Weisheng Lu, Xi Chen, Daniel Chi Wing Ho, Hongdi Wang

Faculty of Design & Environment (THEi)

There is an ongoing debate concerning the disparity between the public and private sectors in relation to construction waste management (CWM) performance: some argue that CWM performance between the two sectors should have no difference since they are under the governance of the same set of CWM related regulations, while others argue that public sector clients should perform better as they are subject to greater social scrutiny. Previous studies comparing CWM performance have suffered from insufficient quality data, leaving the debate on the CWM performance disparity largely inconclusive. Informed by the Coase Invariant Theorem, this research empirically compares CWM performance …

The Impact Of Green Walls And Roofs To Urban Microclimate In Downtown Dallas, Texas: Learning From Simulated Environments, Dalit Bielaz Sclar Mar 2014

The Impact Of Green Walls And Roofs To Urban Microclimate In Downtown Dallas, Texas: Learning From Simulated Environments, Dalit Bielaz Sclar

Landscape Architecture Masters & Design Theses

Microclimate refers to a localized zone where the climate is different than the surrounding area. In dense urban areas, climate is affected by "urban thermo-physical and geometrical characteristics, anthropogenic activities and heat sources" (Dimoudi et.al. 2013, p.1). Materials such as brick, asphalt, and concrete absorb the sun's energy, and then heat-up, and re-radiate that heat into the ambient air, creating urban heat island effects. These effects can be partially mitigated by modifying the physical surface and mass properties of buildings. By adding vegetation and soil, in addition to the shade made by surrounding buildings, seasonal energy gain may be modified. …

Study Of Cultural Landscapes In Texas: An Inquiry For Policy Recommendations, Dorothy Joelle Wright Jul 2013

Study Of Cultural Landscapes In Texas: An Inquiry For Policy Recommendations, Dorothy Joelle Wright

Landscape Architecture Masters & Design Theses

The object of this thesis is to understand the status of preservation of Texas cultural landscapes and encourage policy recommendations. To do this, the thesis examines the procedure for nominating cultural landscapes in Texas for the National Register of Historic Places (NR), a program administered by the National Park Service (NPS) through state-level agencies. In Texas, the Texas Historical Society (THC) administers NR programs under supervision of the State Historic Preservation Officer. In the 1950s, the term cultural landscape rarely appeared in print. However, beginning with the work of J.B. Jackson, an independent writer and landscape scholar, cultural landscape studies …

Understanding Gentrification: The Role And Abilities Of Community-Based Organizations In Changing Neighborhoods - A Case Study Of Post-Katrina New Orleans -, Myung-Ji Bang

Planning Theses

The goal of this study is to identify the roles and barriers of community-based organizations in post-disaster changing neighborhoods and to examine how community based organizations support residents in dealing with neighborhood change through the case of New Orleans, Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina. Drawing on a review of existing reports and conducting surveys with community-based organizations, this study first identifies how community-based organizations support existing residents and attempts to gauge the role of these organizations in representing low-income residents in New Orleans, LA after Katrina, 2005. I focus in particular on the potential role and the ability of community-based organizations--not …

Influences And Mental Processes Involved In Generating Creative Products: Their Implications For Landscape Architects, Theunis Willem Devilliers Sep 2009

Influences And Mental Processes Involved In Generating Creative Products: Their Implications For Landscape Architects, Theunis Willem Devilliers

Landscape Architecture Masters & Design Theses

Creativity is the ability to bring something new into existence consciously with `something new' being a product resulting from a process initiated by a person (Barron, 1988.) It may be an idea, an artwork of acknowledged greatness, a scientific discovery, the solution to a problem, leadership abilities, or theories and products that are unique and novel (Barron, 1988.)Influences involved in generating creative products include the social and historical milieu in which creativity is carried out, a culturally defined domain, the creative person's personality, cognitive factors, and motivational characteristics. The topic of creativity is appropriate for landscape architecture because creative products …

Evaluating Methods For Developing A Vision As They Apply To Small Landscape Architecture Firms, Gregory Allen Cuppett Aug 2008

Evaluating Methods For Developing A Vision As They Apply To Small Landscape Architecture Firms, Gregory Allen Cuppett

Landscape Architecture Masters & Design Theses

This research started on a quest for information about the future. Not a future based on information from the past or even the present but a visionary look at the future. There are many parts to strategic planning. One part of the strategic planning process is the creation of a vision. There are different processes used facilitate this kind of visionary thinking. The literature in landscape architecture is limited on this subject creating a need to look at business and futurist literature. The question is what steps of the different visioning methods in the business community best apply to the …

Overlooked By The Skyscrapers: The Creighton University Ballpark Complex, Kristopher M. Tourek

Architecture Masters of Science Program: Theses

At the Collegiate level, a stadium represents more than just a sporting event. The stadium has grown to become a symbol of university pride and often reflects its accomplishments. The proposed project involves combining sports and entertainment in order to create a Baseball Stadium that will serve as home to the Creighton University Baseball team. The first intention is to generate a building that exhibits the connection between the experiences of a game with the architecture of a stadium. The secondary objectives are 1)Establish the stadium to be a source of civic pride in Omaha, 2)Design the stadium to be …
