A Common Economic Space For The West African Monetary Zone (Wamz): Imperatives For Financial Systems Development, A. O. Adenuga, K. K. Ogunjuiba, M. E. Obiechina

Bullion

The international financial turmoil of the 21 century has provoked much reflection and analysis within the international community on ways to strengthen the international financial architecture. It left behind important lessons, while exposing the limitations of individual country policy frameworks for preventing a systemic crisis. However, the issue of whether a common economic space is feasible within the West African Monetary Zone is still doubtful, given current efforts towards monetary union in Sub-Saharan Africa. This paper adopts an empirical review approach, identifying benefits and key constraints to a common economic space in the WAMZ vis-à-vis macroeconomic development in the WAMZ, …

Executive Compensation: The Role Of Shari’A Compliance, William Martin, Karen Ahmed

Publications – Dreihaus College of Business

Abstract Purpose The purpose of this paper is to illuminate issues surrounding executive compensation as it relates to current understandings of Islamic business law. Methodology We review the emerging bodies of literature in the fields of executive compensation and opinions of stock options under Shari’a law. Findings It appears that the trend in offering employee stock options as part of a Shari’a compliant compensation package is acceptable in most cases, yet because of its close association with the more problematic idea of derivative transactions, the company must be vigilant in obtaining the approval from its Shari’a Standards Board before offering …

Innovation And Location In The Multinational Firm, John Cantwell, Yanli Zhang 2011 Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey

Innovation And Location In The Multinational Firm, John Cantwell, Yanli Zhang

Department of Management Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

This paper provides an overview of the relationship between multinational corporations (MNCs) and local economic systems. It examines the implications of a decentralisation of innovative activity within MNCs for their interaction with local networks. It is shown that this interaction depends upon the type of cluster, whether a general centre of excellence or a specialised centre. These two principal kinds of cluster are associated with different structures of local knowledge spillovers between firms. Localised science-technology linkages offer a further category of interaction. It is shown how locational hierarchies may affect the locational strategies of MNCs when they disperse innovative activity.

Effective Valuation Method Of Toxic Assets And Their Influence On Banks’ Financial Statements, Morgan Logue

Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects

The crash of the housing market caused risky home loans and mortgage backed securities to be worth almost nothing; this not only drastically decreased national banks’ net income but also devastated the United States’ economy. The United States Treasury Department believes that they have found a $700 billion solution to the United States’ financial crisis. The Public- Private Investment Program (P-PIP), which is a part of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), plans on clearing toxic assets from national banks’ balance sheets through auctions. Two main concerns that affect the end results of this auction is how to motivate banks …

Effect Of The Prolactin-Release Inhibitor Quinagolide On Lactating Dairy Cows, P. Lacasse, V. Lollivier, R. Bruckmaier, Y. R. Boisclair, G. F. Wagner, M. Boutinaud

Farm Animal Husbandry Collection

In most mammals, prolactin (PRL) is essential for maintaining lactation, and yet the short-term suppression of PRL during established lactation by bromocriptine has produced inconsistent effects on milk yield in cows and goats. To assess the effect of the long-term inhibition of PRL release in lactating dairy cows, 5 Holstein cows in early lactation received daily intramuscular injections of 1 mg of the PRL-release inhibitor quinagolide for 9 wk. Four control cows received the vehicle (water) only. During the last week of the treatments, one udder half was milked once a day (1×) and the other twice a day …

Faculty Publications

Smartphones have blurred the line of capability usually prescribed to traditional telephones by their becoming the premier multi-tasking devices of today‘s world. Since current smartphones have their own dedicated operating system, Bluetooth capabilities, and constant network connection, PC connectivity, and internet capability, smartphones are experiencing security risks just as computer systems have done for many years. This paper will examine the history of mobile technology and its integration into people‘s daily lives. Furthermore, smartphone capabilities will be investigated for their potential vulnerabilities due to lack of consumers‘ precautions and smartphone usage.

The Gravity Of R&D Fdis, Antonello Zanfei, Davide Castellani, Alfredo Jimenez Palmero 2011 University of Urbino

The Gravity Of R&D Fdis, Antonello Zanfei, Davide Castellani, Alfredo Jimenez Palmero

Antonello Zanfei

The gravity model predicts that international trade and FDI should fade with geographic distance. The negative effect of distance is justified by the existence of transport costs which hamper the international exchange of final and intermediate goods, and by higher uncertainty about local markets. We submit that distance plays a remarkably different role in the case of R&D FDIs since they mainly involve the international transfer, absorption and use of knowledge. Using data on bilateral investment projects in R&D, manufacturing and other business activities between 58 countries, we find that geographic distance does not hinder R&D FDIs as much as …

Il Comitato Per Il Controllo Interno E Per La Revisione Contabile Introdotto Dall’Art. 19 Del D.Lgs. 39/2010: Riflessioni In Sede Di Prima Istituzione Alla Luce Delle Indicazioni Dell’Unione Europea, Claudio Sottoriva

Claudio Sottoriva

Who Should Bear The Administrative Costs Of An Emissions Tax?, John K. Stranlund, Carlos A. Chavez

John K. Stranlund

All environmental policies involve administrative costs, the costs of implementing and managing policies that extend beyond abatement costs. We examine theoretically the optimal distribution of these costs between the public and regulated sources of pollution. The distribution of administrative costs affects social welfare only if public funds are more expensive than private funds, or if the distribution of administrative costs affects the size of a regulated industry. If having the public take on a larger part of administrative costs increases the size of the industry and this does not lead to lower emissions for a given emissions tax, then it …
