Digital library (DL) is an important information system which provides all-encompassing benefits to various stakeholders in scholarship and research through its provision of access to immediate and up-to-date information resources. The review of literature indicated low use of this system by engineering lecturers owing to system characteristics; and pay little or no attention to factors such as Performance Expectancy (PE) and Facilitating Conditions (FC) on the use of this system by engineering lecturers in universities. Data Analysis For Collection Management, Sally Krash, Mark Paris

Sally Krash

The first part of this presentation provides information on the current collections data analysis environment in most libraries, or the lack thereof. Libraries spend millions of dollars each year on resources and data analysis is an essential tool in providing good stewardship of those resources and the funds that are allocated for them. We can no longer rely on anecdotal evidence to inform collections decisions and need to implement tools to enable data-driven decision making that supports innovative collections strategies. The second part of this presentation focuses on work that has been done over the past year in the UMass ...

Information Literacy In The Digital Age: Myths And Principles Of Digital Literacy, Bernd W. Becker

Bernd W. Becker

Librarians have traditionally served as the champions of information literacy, adopting it as a core principle of the profession and creating a movement that tries to facilitate fair, equal access to knowledge and its creation. There are plenty of publications on this topic, but as the Information Age has become the Digital Age, there also needs to be a discussion of how information literacy is evolving. More specifically, librarians are now finding themselves shouldering the responsibilities of digital literacy alongside traditional approaches to information literacy, especially considering how more and more information needs can only be met via digital resources ...

Consideration of current trends and data in librarian demographics demonstrates a consistent decrease in gender diversity, accompanied by a troubling lack of women leaders and executives. Additionally, this article explores options for combating the gender perceptions that negatively impact women in library and information science ...

Protection Versus First Amendment Violation: Self-Censorship As It Relates To Youth And Young Adult Services, Ann M. Baillie

SLIS Connecting

As the School Library Journal / National Coalition Against Censorship shows, self-censorship among youth and school librarians is on the rise. Though self-censorship has always been an issue in the library science profession, the practice seems to be growing now because books for youth and young adults are becoming more mature.
