Genre, Database, And The Anatomy Of The Digital Archive, Elizabeth J. Vincelette
English Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to define shared characteristics of literary digital archives, specifically to explore how conceptual and structural qualities of such archives express generic qualities. In order to describe digital media such as database or digital archives, scholars resort to metaphors, and this study offers the metaphor of anatomy as a generic inscription with historical and methodological implications. The definition of the anatomy genre draws from Northrop Frye's in Anatomy of Criticism, in which Frye describes how anatomies are characterized by proliferating lists, the mixing of prose and non-prose forms, and self-reflexivity--under the guise of knowledge …

The Southeastern Librarian
In the 21st century, libraries are well aware of the problem of hidden collections and so must seek by computer technology to make these “virtually” hidden collections available to our clients in a single, easy-to-use database. The Kentucky Library & Museum (KYLM), which opened in 1939, houses the special collections department of Western Kentucky University Libraries, and holds materials collected from 1919 to the present. Special collection libraries and archives such as the KYLM are known for their diversity of materials including manuscripts, ephemera, institutional records, maps, images, objects, audio and video recordings. These collections are of great research value …

Born in Pau, France, of an American G.I. father and a French mother, Odette Patterson (nee Walling) came to the United States with her family following the end of World War I. By all accounts bright and hardworking, Odette created her version of the American Dream by succeeding in the then-male dominated business world during the 1940s through the 1960s. After succeeding in a series of secretarial jobs at various places, she worked her way up to becoming a well-regarded advertising manager with First Federal Savings and Loan Association of St. Petersburg. After the death of her husband Charles A. …

Creating An Institutional Repository For State Government Digital Publications, Mei Kiu Lo, Leah M. Thomas
Law Faculty Publications
In 2008, the Library of Virginia (LVA) selected the digital asset management system DigiTool to host a centralized collection of digital state government publications. The Virginia state digital repository targets three primary user groups: state agencies, depository libraries and the general public. DigiTool’s ability to create depositor profiles for individual agencies to submit their publications, its integration with the Aleph ILS, and product support by ExLibris were primary factors in its selection. As a smaller institution, however, LVA lacked the internal resources to take full advantage of DigiTool’s full set of features. The process of cataloging a heterogenous collection of …

Documenting Digital Art In Small Galleries: The Approach Of The Interpares Project, Harrison W. Inefuku
Harrison W. Inefuku
This presentation discusses research being conducted at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery as part of the InterPARES 3 Project, which is developing a documentation framework to support the preservation of digital and new media art. The framework includes the use of a questionnaire for artists; a checklist of records that should be created and/or acquired by the Gallery; a file structure that allows the Gallery to maintain its documents and records according to records and archival management best practices; and an analysis of copyright and moral rights issues.
