This research asks two basic questions: 1) To what extent was the Bush administration’s pro-war propaganda repeated, amplified, and ultimately reported as fact by main stream news agencies? and 2) Is there any correlation between the repetition of the propaganda and popular support for the invasion of Iraq? In other words, can we say news reports helped “sell” the war?

Community College Librarians And The Acrl Framework: Findings From A National Study, Susan T. Wengler, Christine Wolff-Eisenberg

This study explored community college librarians’ engagement with the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. A national online survey with 1,201 community college librarian respondents reveals limited familiarity with and integration of the Framework into community college instruction to date. Findings indicate an openness to future adoption, as well as substantial interest in targeted professional development and a version of the Framework adapted for community college campuses. Sink Or Swim? A Case-Study Approach To Teaching Information Evaluation, Katie Strand, Rachel Wishkoski

This paper is part of the LOEX 2019 conference proceedings and reports on an engaging information evaluation lesson designed by a team of librarians at Utah State University. Teaching evaluation skills in the highly emotional world of fake news is a daunting task. The lesson described here uses realistic case studies to give students the critical distance necessary to practice evaluation before diving into their personal research and biases. The article outlines the lesson’s case study activity and rationale in teaching students adaptable evaluation skills that they can apply in their academic, professional, and personal lives.

Undergraduates use electronic library resources for academic activities because it offers access to relevant and current information from different subject areas. Within the context of creative information communities in general, fiction writers remain a relatively understudied community. This article seeks to rectify that gap by highlighting the information behaviors of fiction writers, including the ways in which they network, as well as the processes they use when writing. First year students in Professor Maureen Reddy's Honors course, Dracula: The Monster (Always!) Returns, were expected to gain an understanding of the critical conversation that surrounds Bram Stoker’s Dracula. As the librarian for English, I met with Professor Reddy’s class to teach students how to search for literary criticism. This semester I developed a lesson that integrated active learning and the concept of “Searching as Strategic Exploration” from the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy.
