As the international development community continues to manage public health challenges and emerging diseases, the need for behavior prioritization is critical. The information in this brief provides rationale for why behavior prioritization is instrumental to improve social and behavior change programming, and ends with a call to action for advocacy for behavior prioritization processes as part of social and behavior change program design, planning, and adaptation. Background: Attending to the wide range of communication behaviors that convey empathy is an important but often underemphasized concept to reduce errors in care, improve patient satisfaction, and improve cancer patient outcomes. A virtual human (VH)–based simulation, MPathic-VR, was developed to train health care providers in empathic communication with patients and in interprofessional settings and evaluated through a randomized controlled trial.

Objective: This mixed methods study aimed to investigate the differential effects of a VH-based simulation developed to train health care providers in empathic patient-provider and interprofessional communication.

Promoting health literacy is essential to achieve mothers’ empowerment by improving access to and capacity of using health information effectively. However, functional, interactive, and critical health literacy and eHealth literacy have never been assessed among Chinese women. The purpose of this study was to understand learners’ perceptions of the role schools play in health promotion. Health promotion encompasses health education and can be highly effective in the school setting. Given the high rates of HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, early sexual debut, and abuse, health education is highly important in South African schools. All learners are required to take Life Orientation classes, which cover many topics including health education. Communicating The Significance Of Home: Stroke Survivors And Caregivers Share Their Stories, Donna Pawlowski

The goal of this qualitative study was to examine how stroke survivors and caregivers communicated the significance of home in the short-term transition from hospital discharge to home care. Narratives from 12 stroke survivors and their caregivers produced five themes: marker events as motivation, comfort of home and family, emotional privacy of home, excited anticipation of going home, and nervous preparation for home. While much of the communication focused on the positive and hopeful recovery of stroke survivors upon going home, caregiver preparedness and the modifications to home impacted physical and emotional recovery.
