The Bhagavad Gita: The Roadmap To Conscious Evolution: Understanding The Eternal Reality Of Consciousness, Chopra, Sadna

Journal of Conscious Evolution

The purpose of my study is to present the knowledge of the Self (our true nature) and the knowledge of what Consciousness is, from the sacred text of the Bhagavad Gita. I have examined how the verses of the Gita unfold into a Roadmap for the Conscious Evolution of the self.

The Art Of Evolving Consciousness, MacQueen, Kim 2018 California Institute of Integral Studies

The Art Of Evolving Consciousness, Macqueen, Kim

Journal of Conscious Evolution

This paper supports the position that the arts have the capacity not only to give us information intellectually about the evolution of the human endowment of consciousness, but can also evoke a felt sense of previous stages and anticipate transitions and emerging stages. In this paper I give examples of artworks that suggest each stage of the evolution described in the writings of Jean Gebser. For purposes of this paper the artworks are limited to visual arts and sculpture. I think that much of humankind’s vast historical and multicultural endowment of the arts can remind us of previous periods ...

Tantric Buddhist Art: Through An Integral Lens, Haven, Rien T. 2018 California Institute of Integral Studies

Tantric Buddhist Art: Through An Integral Lens, Haven, Rien T.

Journal of Conscious Evolution

Tantric Buddhist art is a very diverse and unique form of art. Its main goals are to reveal the nature of reality by showing the perceiver that there is a more expansive and actualized being than the one currently experienced. In this way it shares many similarities with religious art, but puts its own special non-dual twist on religious art that will engage and surprise the reader.

Integral Aesthetics – The Evolutionary Function Of The Sublime, Joye, Shelli Renee 2018 California Institute of Integral Studies

Integral Aesthetics – The Evolutionary Function Of The Sublime, Joye, Shelli Renee

Journal of Conscious Evolution

This paper explores an evolutionary integral aesthetics arising at the end of a two hundred year arc beginning with Immanuel Kant's establishment of modern aesthetic theory, and culminating with Jean Gebser's integral mutation of consciousness described in The Ever Present Origin. I examine Kant's aesthetics of the sublime as an early opening into Gebser's integral mutation of consciousness, and describe how an encounter with the sublime can boost the mind into wider bandwidths of consciousness with the activation of an integral perception. Beginning with the concept of the sublime in art, I describe how supersensible perception ...

Krishnamurti And Education: Application Of Liberation, McAuley, C. E. 2018 California Institute of Integral Studies

Krishnamurti And Education: Application Of Liberation, Mcauley, C. E.

Journal of Conscious Evolution

This paper is an exploration of Krishnamurti’s ideas on education in relation to American institutions of public education. It explores the K-12 levels and collegiate level of education. While reflecting on the nature of American public education, the paper also poses the question of how Krishnamurti’s philosophy may be applied by the educator within the system. Along with looking at both the nature of American public education and Krishnamurti’s philosophy, I include my own quest on how, if possible, to apply Krishnamurti’s teachings in the college classroom. Looking at multiple aspects of the subject, I reflect ...

Alchemy In Education: Towards A Preschool Model In College Classrooms, Van Alstyne, Bradley E. 2018 California Institute of Integral Studies

Alchemy In Education: Towards A Preschool Model In College Classrooms, Van Alstyne, Bradley E.

Journal of Conscious Evolution

Education has long been a necessary, yet standardized procedure with little difference from program to program or school to school. In this paper I argue that more of a creative approach using existing educational models such as preschool education would serve us well in the development of student skills at all levels, including college. I also contend that an alchemical metaphor would be useful in the application and acknowledgement of the value of such an approach.

An Examination Of Social Consciousness Through The Lens Of Photography, Michael Lane 2018 SUNY Brockport

An Examination Of Social Consciousness Through The Lens Of Photography, Michael Lane

#History: A Journal of Student Research

This paper will argue that photography was a key factor in determining the outcome of the American Civil War. Without it, the North would not have been able to conduct a total war as efficiently as it did. At the beginning of the war, battlefield photographs supported the public’s view of war as glorious, but by the Battle of Antietam in 1862, some photographers had begun capturing the brutal realities of war. This shift reflected and shaped the public’s consciousness with regard to the ever-changing realities of warfare. The Confederacy lacked the photographic materials to create similar depictions ...

Denial In Other Forms, Paul N. Avakian 2018 none

Denial In Other Forms, Paul N. Avakian

Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal

Conventional understandings of denial are rooted in the analysis of language used to negate claims of genocide, and shed little light on the effects of denial beyond words heard or read. Is denying the crime only concerned with refuting its occurrence? Is there more at stake in denying genocide crimes than a lack of mutuality over whether it happened? To deny a crime is to deny what is owed those harmed by the crime, and this involves accountability and restitution according to relevant law. Written or spoken words that reject outright, re-characterize, confuse, or shift blame bring harm on an ...

Creative States And Structures, Roff, Lynne 2018 California Institute of Integral Studies

Creative States And Structures, Roff, Lynne

Journal of Conscious Evolution

This paper explores the states of consciousness associated with creative work and intimations of specific structures of consciousness that develop over the life of an artist or other creative individual. Creative states are transitory phenomenological experiences that are recurrent and predictable aspects of the creative process. Collectively they form a continuum experienced in the course of a creative work. Creative structures are developmental conditions of consciousness that emerge and incorporate one another in succession. A structure cannot be omitted in individual cognitive development, and, barring damage to the brain, structures are permanent and irreversible.
