Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A facile and sensitive colorimetric detection method for sildenafil citrate (SLDC) has been developed by using polyvinyl alcohol-citrate-stabilized silver nanoparticles (PVA-Cit-AgNPs). The sensitivity and selectivity of colorimetric detection were investigated in detail. The PVA-Cit-AgNPs could be induced to aggregate immediately in the presence of SLDC, especially after the addition of 0.1 M HCl solution. The SLD could be detected by the colorimetric response of AgNPs that could be monitored by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer or even the naked eye. The linear range was found to be 0.6-5.0 μM with the calculated detection limit of 0.1 μM and the naked-eye detection limit …

From Balancing Redox Reactions To Determining Change Of Oxidation Numbers, Pong Kau Yuen, Cheng Man Diana Lau 2022 Texas Southern University

From Balancing Redox Reactions To Determining Change Of Oxidation Numbers, Pong Kau Yuen, Cheng Man Diana Lau

Faculty Publications

Redox reaction is a core concept in teaching and learning chemistry. This article explores a new method for balancing organic redox reactions that requires the balancing of both atoms and charges. The H+, O, H2O, and e– are used as balanced vehicles in two half reactions. A non-oxidation number approach can be applied to both molecular and ionic equations. The article also provides standard operating procedures and examples. The number of transferred electrons is first determined by balancing a half redox reaction; consequently; the change of oxidation numbers can be calculated. The mathematical equation of Te– = n Te– = …

Computational chemistry methods have been extensively applied to investigate biological systems. This dissertation utilizes a multilevel computational approach to explore the dynamics and reaction mechanisms of two groups of enzymes belonging to non-heme Fe(II) and 2-oxoglutarate (2OG) dependent superfamily – histone lysine demethylases from class 7 and ethylene forming enzyme (EFE). Chapter 2 uncovers the role of conformational dynamics in the substrate selectivity of histone lysine demethylases 7A and 7B. The molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of the two enzymes revealed the importance of linker flexibility and dynamics in relative orientations of the reader (PHD) and the catalytic (JmjC) domains. Chapter …

Analysis Of Microdroplets And Microorganisms By Single Entity Electrochemistry, Junaid U. Ahmed 2022 Virginia Commonwealth University

Analysis Of Microdroplets And Microorganisms By Single Entity Electrochemistry, Junaid U. Ahmed

Theses and Dissertations

Single Entity Electrochemistry (SEE) is an emerging electrochemical technique that has been used to characterize discrete entities by measuring the change in current or potential during individual stochastic events (collision or adsorption) of an entity with an ultramicroelectrode (UME) of similar dimensions. The shape and magnitude of the SEE signal depend on the underlying mechanism of interaction with the UME surface. There is a critical need for quantitative models that correlate the SEE signal with properties of the entity-UME system, including effects of acquisition instrumentation, to prevent misinterpretation of data.

This research focused on integrated experiments and simulations to quantify …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Plga Capped Gold Nanoparticles For Use In Cancer Therapeutics, Tara Chin

WWU Graduate School Collection

This research project aims to create gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) functionalized with PLGA (poly(lactic co-glycolic acid)) polymers for generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) by way of Xray irradiation for use in cancer therapies. The current methods of cancer treatment rely on drugs and/or chemotherapy depending on the type of cancer present; these methods come with varying success rates which are also dependent on how severe the condition has become (the lower the severity, the higher chance of success). The latest method of cancer treatment is proton beam radiation therapy (PBRT) which can be specific in its targeting but not very cost …
