Increasing Vaccination Rates In Children Of Vaccine-Hesitant Parents, 2015 Virginia Commonwealth University
Increasing Vaccination Rates In Children Of Vaccine-Hesitant Parents, Keegan G. Edgar
Undergraduate Research Posters
In recent years, the number of parents who have declining vaccinations or instituting altered immunization schedules for their children has risen. This has caused an increased number of outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. It has also threatened herd immunity, which provides a measure of protection for those who are susceptible to disease given enough people are vaccinated, as this hinders the spread of the disease. To combat this threat to herd immunity, it is becoming increasingly necessary to find a solution to the problem of increasing personal belief exemption.
I took a cause and effect approach in the way I researched …

Spheres Of Influence: Understanding African American Males' Perceptions And Attitudes Toward Infant Feeding Practices, Makeva M. Rhoden
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Although U.S. breastfeeding rates have steadily increased since 2000, there continues to be a disparity in breastfeeding rates for African American (AA) women compared to their non-Hispanic White counterparts. A male partner's perception, specifically his positive attitude toward breastfeeding, may influence breastfeeding initiation and duration rates. This study was an exploration of AA male perceptions and attitudes toward breastfeeding and what effect masculinity ideology (gender norms) has on such attitudes. The socio-ecological model (SEM) was used as the theoretical framework to examine the various environmental levels that intersect with one another to influence these attitudes. A mixed methods study design, …
H2h Strategies Associated With Reduced Heart Failure Readmission Rates In Georgia Hospitals, 2015 Walden University
H2h Strategies Associated With Reduced Heart Failure Readmission Rates In Georgia Hospitals, Carisa Sellers
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Reducing heart failure risk standardized readmissions rates (RSRRs) continues to be a challenge in the United States. Among Medicare beneficiaries, the U.S. national rate for heart failure RSRRs is 23, and Georgia only has 3 hospitals with heart failure RSRRs that are better than the national rate. The hospital component of the chronic care model (CCM) was the theoretical framework used in this study because the model was designed to assist heath care organizations in improving chronic care outcomes. Researchers have indicated that the Hospital to Home Initiative (H2H), a national quality improvement campaign launched in 2009, is effective in …

Hiv Testing Among Young African American Men Who Have Sex With Men, Tayo B. Awopeju
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Young African American men who have sex with men (AAMSM) are at greater risk of being infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and less likely to seek HIV testing than are members of other demographic groups. This behavior results in a significant public health threat because young AAMSM with an unrecognized HIV infection are less likely to practice safer sex and, therefore, more likely to pass the infection on to their partners. This study is an examination of the social and personality factors that influence HIV testing rates among young AAMSM, using Aday's model of the social determinants of …
