Working Out The Kinks: Creating Solutions To Assist Health Care Workers To Take Vital Signs Through Effective Cable Management, Carl R. Russell Iii, Emily J. Linder, Maya A. Godbole
Purdue Journal of Service-Learning and International Engagement
EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service) is a service-learning design program run through Purdue University. It strives to teach students design skills through providing solutions for individuals, communities, and organizations in the surrounding area while mirroring engineering industry standards. BME (Bio-medical Engineering) is a team within EPICS that strives to serve community partners through biomedical applications. Members of a health care team often spend valuable time organizing cables associated with machines used to take patients’ vital signs. Due to time constraints and the fast-paced work environment, these cables may be mismanaged and damaged. The BME team is working on a …
Examining The Effects Of Formal Education Level On The Montreal Cognitive Assessment, 2022 University of Kentucky
Examining The Effects Of Formal Education Level On The Montreal Cognitive Assessment, Renee S. White, Justin M. Barber, Jordan P. Harp, Gregory A. Jicha
Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Faculty Publications
Background: Brief, global assessments such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) are widely used in primary care for assessing cognition in older adults. Like other neuropsychological instruments, lower formal education can influence MoCA interpretation.
Methods: Data from 2 large studies of cognitive aging were used—Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) and National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC). Both use comprehensive examinations to determine cognitive status and have brain amyloid status for many participants. Mixed models were used to account for random variation due to data source.
Results: Cognitively intact participants with lower education (≤12 years) were more likely than …

The classic pathologic hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles (AD neuropathologic changes, or ADNC). However, brains from individuals clinically diagnosed with “AD-type” (amnestic) dementia usually harbor heterogeneous neuropathologies in addition to, or other than, ADNC. We hypothesized that some AD-type dementia associated genetic single nucleotide variants (SNVs) identified from large genomewide association studies (GWAS) were associated with non-ADNC neuropathologies. To test this hypothesis, we analyzed data from multiple studies with available genotype and neuropathologic phenotype information. Clinical AD/dementia risk alleles of interest were derived from the very large GWAS by Bellenguez et al. (2022) who …
Possibilities Of Using Neuromarketing Tools In The Hospitality Industry, 2022 Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University
Possibilities Of Using Neuromarketing Tools In The Hospitality Industry, Serdar Bulbul
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
Usage of neurosciences in social sciences has emerged new perspectives and methods for marketing and tourism marketing. Neuro-marketing and Neuro-tourism are some of those concepts. In the hospitality industry, marketing is in a complex state because the decision-making processes of the guests are unpredictable. For this reason, hotel managements are unable to satisfy guest’s requests and demands with traditional methods. Therefore, Neuro-marketing has importance because this new way of marketing has a high chance to replace currently used methods. Usage of Neuro-marketing in the hospitality industry could satisfy the guest requests while generating new marketing perspectives on hotel management. This …

Resistance to checkpoint-blockade treatments is a challenge in the clinic. Both primary and acquired resistance have become major obstacles, greatly limiting the long-lasting effects and wide application of blockade therapy. Many patients with metastatic melanoma eventually require further therapy. The absence of T-cell infiltration to the tumor site is a well-accepted contributor limiting immune checkpoint inhibitor efficacy. In this study, we combined intratumoral injection of plasmid IL-12 with electrotransfer and anti-PD-1 in metastatic B16F10 melanoma tumor model to increase tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and improve therapeutic efficacy. We showed that effective anti-tumor responses required a subset of tumor-infiltrating CD8+ and CD4 …

In the conventional model of serotonin neurotransmission, serotonin released by neurons in the midbrain raphe nuclei exerts its actions on forebrain neurons by interacting with a large family of post-synaptic receptors. The actions of serotonin are terminated by active transport of serotonin back into the releasing neuron, which is mediated by the serotonin reuptake transporter (SERT). Because SERT is expressed pre-synaptically and is widely thought to be the only serotonin transporter in the forebrain, the conventional model does not include serotonin transport into post-synaptic neurons. However, a large body of evidence accumulating since the 1970s has shown that serotonin, despite …

Background: Cesarean section (CS) is one of the most frequent abdominal procedures. A meta-analysis regarding the techniques and materials used for skin closure in CS shows no conclusive evidence about how the skin should be closed with the best outcome. Thus, any modified skin closure technique that could reduce the incidence of wound complications and pain would have a significant impact on the national economic health plans. Objective: The aim was to estimate the outcome of non-suture skin closure method of CS wound as an alternative to usual methods. Patients and methods: This study was a prospective case control study …
