Accessing Healthcare In The Era Of Covid-19 For Youth Experiencing Homelessness, Ray Mak

Family Medicine Clerkship Student Projects

Youth experiencing homelessness face multifactorial challenges in obtaining adequate health literacy. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the need for healthcare as well as heightened confusion with the spread of health misinformation. This project aims to provide a step-by-step guide for when youth should seek medical treatment for COVID-19 to avoid unnecessary medical costs.

Culture And Occupational Therapy, Kaitlyn Domingo, Becki Cohill, Susan MacDermott, Karen Park 2021 University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences

Culture And Occupational Therapy, Kaitlyn Domingo, Becki Cohill, Susan Macdermott, Karen Park

Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium, Spring 2021

The purpose of this capstone project was to develop a cultural intelligence program for occupational therapy practitioners (OTP[s]). However, due to the results of the project’s research component, this capstone shifted to addressing a potential need for a global shift in the occupational therapy (OT) process and diversifying the content and dissemination of cultural training courses.

A mixed-methods survey was conducted to assess 45 OTPs’ confidence levels with delivering culturally intelligent care, their means of overcoming cultural barriers in clinical practice, and to collect anecdotes on the process of becoming a culturally intelligent practitioner.

Four primary research themes ...

Clinician Perspectives On The Need For Training And Caring For Pregnant Women With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities, Nili S. Amir, Lauren Smith, Anne M. Valentine, Monika Mitra, Susan L. Parish, Tiffany Moore Simas 2021 University of Massachusetts Medical School

Clinician Perspectives On The Need For Training And Caring For Pregnant Women With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities, Nili S. Amir, Lauren Smith, Anne M. Valentine, Monika Mitra, Susan L. Parish, Tiffany Moore Simas

Senior Scholars Program

Background: Women with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience disparities in obstetric care access and quality, in addition to communication gaps with healthcare providers. Many obstetric providers are untrained and uneducated about critical aspects of providing care to persons with IDD.

Objectives: The present study was conducted (1) to describe obstetric clinicians’ training experiences related to providing obstetric care to women with IDD, (2) to assess obstetric clinicians’ perceived need for formalized training, and (3) to identify recommendations for training content and dissemination.

Methods: This study involved qualitative individual interviews (n=9) and one focus group (n=8) with obstetric ...

B2: Presence Of Immunosuppressive Drugs Affect Innate Immune Response And Monocyte Differentiation In Lung Transplant Patients, Inayat Kaur Oms Iii, Ryan Wang Oms Ii, Amy E.L. Stone

Annual Research Symposium

Lung transplant patients are administered Immunosuppressive Drugs (ISDs) to prevent transplant rejection, but this also puts them at constant risk of infection due to the decreased ability of the immune system to respond to subsequent infections by viruses, bacteria etc.

Purpose

This paper focuses on the effect of ISDs on the innate immune response. We are using different parts of viruses and bacteria and allowing them to represent the organism as a whole.

Methods

As representatives of the innate immune system, we are going to be testing monocyte, macrophage, and dendritic cell lineages. We are hypothesizing that the presence of ...

B1: Determination Of Reliability And Practicality Of Saliva As A Genetic Source By Analyzing Dna Yield In Forensic Investigation : A Systematic Review”, G Sujatha, J Muruganandhan 2021 Sri Venkateswara Dental College

B1: Determination Of Reliability And Practicality Of Saliva As A Genetic Source By Analyzing Dna Yield In Forensic Investigation : A Systematic Review”, G Sujatha, J Muruganandhan

Annual Research Symposium

Background

Genetic analysis has become the mainstay of forensic identification protocols. Oral fluids including saliva are invariably present in crime and disaster scenarios; their availability probably exceeding that of conventional sources like blood. Due to the intrinsic nature of fluids, the substrates may be degraded due to time delay and environmental exposure. Therefore, a review of the reliability and practicality of saliva in forensic analysis is warranted.

Objectives

This review is designed and planned to present and critically analyze the most relevant clinical trials on the application of saliva in forensic settings in order to assess the reliability of saliva ...
