Hospital administrators and researchers often use large, standardized surveys that examine patient satisfaction to evaluate whether interventions improve patient experience. To summarize the breadth of these interventions and how large, standardized surveys are used to evaluate them, a multidisciplinary research team conducted a review. They used PubMed and Google Scholar searches, reviews of reference lists and targeted searches to locate studies. They evaluated one hundred and twenty-four articles and fifty-eight articles met the inclusion criteria for the narrative review. The Hospital at Home (HaH) model of care, which enables the provision of acute-level care in the patient’s own home as an alternative to brick and mortar hospital admission, was introduced in British Columbia, Canada in November 2020, starting with 9 inpatient “beds” in the community. Background/Purpose

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols are multi-disciplinary approaches that optimize recovery and reduce surgical outcome variability. This scoping review compares surgical outcomes associated with traditional perioperative care to outcomes associated with an ERAS protocol for patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery.

Methods

A literature review evaluating traditional perioperative care versus ERAS protocols in cardiothoracic surgical patients was performed to set inclusion and exclusion criteria based on current peer-reviewed journal articles for qualitative data. This evidence-based practice project aimed to implement and evaluate the use of a provider-completed asthma action plan (PCAAP) in a school-based setting by evaluating the number of school absences and unscheduled healthcare visits related to asthma exacerbations. This project was implemented in a middle school setting over a three-month period, using the Iowa Model to guide intervention. Data were collected via chart review to compare the number of absences and unscheduled asthma-related healthcare visits from the current academic year to the same time in the previous year. While these technologies allowed for healthcare communications that otherwise could not occur during such trying times, there are major limitations to these sanctioned applications. Research focusing on hypothermia has established a relationship between surgical stress and inflammatory biomarkers on delirium incidents in critically ill non-cardiac surgical patients. Unfortunately, postoperative delirium is a common complication after surgery and results in acute brain failure. Though the cause of delirium is still relatively unknown, systemic inflammation with neurological involvement is one of the leading etiologic theories. Another common complication in surgical patients is the occurrence of unplanned hypothermia during non-cardiac surgeries. Central lines provide many benefits to critically ill patients; however, there are additional risks with them, including central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs). CLABSIs place patients at increased risk for morbidity and mortality, longer length of stay, and higher medical costs. Studies evaluating various methods of reducing CLABSIs have been performed. Background: In 2021, cancer (CRC) screening rates for Latino men (42%) and women (47.5%) remain well below the Health People 2020 target (70.5%). Extensive documentation of barriers for screening include language, insurance status, and other sociocultural barriers which contribute to delays in diagnosis and/or diagnosis at advanced stages of the disease, and worse health outcomes.
