Abstract
Aim: This study aimed to investigate the effect of chlorhexidine (CHX) on nanoleakage (NL) and dentin bond durability of two adhesives after water storage.
Materials and Methods: Thirty-six extracted molars were divided into three groups and their buccal surfaces were reduced to expose flat dentin surfaces. In group 1 Single Bond Universal Adhesive (SBU) was used, in group 2 Peak universal Bond (PUB) was applied while in group 3 Chlorhexidine Gluconate Disinfecting Solution followed by Single Bond Universal Adhesive (CHX+SBU) was used. Application of resin composite restorations was performed in all three groups. For each bonding procedure, …

This study investigated the effect of bleaching on color change of the single shade universal composite (Omnichroma) versus nano-filled resin composite (Z350 XT).
Methods: Twenty premolars of shade A3 were used for the study. Standardized class V cavities were prepared on the cervical third of the buccal surface of all teeth. After that, teeth were randomly divided into two groups of 10 teeth each according to the type of resin composite used. After composite application, all teeth were stored individually in distilled water for 24 hours. Evaluation of the restoration color was done using VITA Easyshade. The teeth were bleached …

Dental Hygiene Students' Matching Accuracy When Comparing Antemortem Dental Radiographs And Oral Photographs To Simulated Postmortem Winid3® Odontograms, Brenda T. Bradshaw, Amber W. Hunt, Emily Ludwig, Tara L. Newcomb
Dental Hygiene Faculty Publications
Matching dental antemortem (AM) and postmortem (PM) data for human identification is especially challenging when the workforce is limited. Dental hygienists have served mass fatality incidents (MFIs) due to dental-related expertise. However, forensics within dental hygiene education and research on transferable skills is limited. This qualitative balance design study assessed senior dental hygiene students' match accuracy of simulated cases varying in dental identifiers based on AM full mouth series (FMS) radiographs and oral photographs to PM WinID3® odontograms to demonstrate possible disaster victim identification (DVI) transferable skills gained during formal education. A convenience sample of senior dental hygiene students ( …

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of edentulousness on the temporomandibular joint using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: In this study, CBCT images were evaluated in a total of 48 patients (24 dentulous, 24 edentulous). Ninety-six temporomandibular joint CBCT images were examined. Eminence inclination, condyle head widths and joint space were measured and statistically compared between the edentulous and dentulous groups. Results: The articular eminence inclination value the mediolateral width of the condyle and the anteroposterior width of the condyle were found significantly higher in the dentulous group than in the edentulous group. …

Objective: Root canal anatomy significantly impacts the working length determination. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the preflaring technique on the accuracy of four electronic apex locators. Methods: Forty-five single-canal central maxillary teeth were selected. The working length was measured before and after the coronal preparation by four types of electronic apex locators in the range of ±0.5 and ±1 mm matched for the apical constriction. The actual working length was calculated under a microscope. Data were analyzed using ICC and paired t-tests in SPSS16. A p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The accuracies of Root ZX, DTE, Denjoy, and Coxo apex …

Methods: Sixty mandibular molars with a curvature of 30° were decoronated and divided into three groups (Vortex Blue, Mtwo, and ProTaper Next) and two subgroups (rotary and reciprocating motions). The samples were then instrumented with the files, dyed with 1% methylene blue dye, and sectioned horizontally at 3, 6, and 9 mm from the root apex. The dentinal microcracks were inspected using a stereomicroscope at 40× magnification. One-way analysis …

Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma Syndrome, also called as Gorlin Gotz syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the presence of multiple odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) of the jaw, basal cell carcinomas and skeletal anomalies. Presence of multiple OKCs is the first clinical manifestation in majority of the cases. Early diagnosis and treatment are of utmost importance in reducing the severity of this syndrome. We hereby report a rare case of Gorlin Goltz syndrome in a 28 years old female patient who presented with multiple cystic lesions in the jaws. Present case also highlights the clinical, radiographic and histopathologic features of …

The main advantage of using a minimal invasive strategy concept by uncut enamel technique while doing direct composite restoration is to create a color and translucency close to the natural teeth with long-term bonding durability. Objective: This case report presents an uncut enamel technique for multiple diastema closure cases using direct composite restoration. Case Reports: an 18-year-old male and a 50-year-old female patient complained of diastema in their upper front teeth and requested aesthetic correction. Digital mock-up was made prior to the uncut enamel technique for showing the expected results to the patient and as a guidance for the …

Introduction: The masseter and the anterior part of the temporalis are the muscles mainly responsible for the clenching function. Clenching patterns and the activity of these muscles are not expected to differ between male and females, nor between different occlusal classes. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine whether the activity index of the masseter and temporalis muscles is related to occlusal class and gender. Methods: This study involved 145 eighteen-year-old Caucasian volunteers who underwent surface electromyography. The sEMG was analyzed at the moment of 100% occlusal contact. Occlusal classes were determined used plaster casts. …

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the commercially available membranes used for treatment in Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR). Methods: Four membranes resorbable and non-resorbable were used and a critical size defect in six-week-old Wistar rats was created for membrane application. Meanwhile, the defect without membrane treatment was used as the control (C). Results: After 4 and 8 weeks, all rats were euthanized and block biopsies of calvaria including membrane were excised and analysed using microcomputed tomography (micro-CT). The sections were dehydrated with graded ethanol, embedded in resin, and cut for histologic evaluation. After 4 weeks, all membrane …
