There are many times a day that I find myself feeling worried, anxious, or fearful. With these discomforts building, I find that each month I am getting more headaches, stomach aches, and even neck/back pain. In an attempt to find relief for my pain and discomfort, I find myself reaching for some type of medication, only to find they have moderate effects. For my honors project, I sought to find a noninvasive, alternative form of treatment in order to help relieve illness, tension, or discomfort. I found a Japanese, integrative therapy that is complementary with the already well-known Western medicine. …

Proposed Interaction Mechanism Between Medicine And The Diseased Cell In Diluted Homoeopathic Medicine, Bijay Chaudhuri, Biswadeep Chaudhuri
Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy
Background: High-diluted homoeopathic medicines practically contain no medicinal molecules. The disease-curing mechanism of homoeopathic medicines has not yet been adequately understood. Acceptable knowledge of this mechanism is essential for further development of homoeopathic science. Objectives: The purpose of this article is to provide a phenomenological model to understand the interaction mechanism between homoeopathic medicines and the diseased cell (DC), which cure diseases with a view to build a conceptual framework that would facilitate subsequent clinical and theoretical investigations. Methods: We have proposed the formation of hydrogen bonded nano and micro clusters (NAM) during the preparation (succession) of homoeopathic medicines. NAM …

Introduction: Cholelithiasis or gallstone disease is a very common problem worldwide. The prevalence is more in females than males. Although cholecystectomy is considered the gold standard treatment for symptomatic cholelithiasis, it has its own limitations, risks and post-operative complications. Here, an alternative system of medicine, especially Homoeopathy, plays an important role in treating cholelithiasis. Case Summary: A 32-year-old female patient presented with the symptoms of dull pain in the right hypochondrium, sour eructations and regurgitation of food. The ultrasonography (USG) report confirmed the presence of multiple stones in the gallbladder of varying sizes, from 3 mm to 11 mm. Although …

Stroke, also known as CVA or cerebrovascular accident, is a major chronic disease worldwide. In the United States, it is the leading cause of disability, costing a billion dollars each year (CDC, 2017). Typically, Western medicine is used for the treatment of stroke in the United States. An approach that has potential to improve general health outcomes, movement, mobility, aphasia, and quality of life includes acupuncture along with the standard therapies. The purpose of this quantitative research was to determine if the staff of a rehabilitation hospital would have a change in attitude after an educational program on acupuncture. The …

Treatment Of Anxiety Using Massage Therapy In A Neurorehabilitation Program, Jennifer Gordon
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones
Abstract
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been considered a silent epidemic. The symptoms post-injury can be pervasive and impact individuals physically, emotionally, and socially. It also creates a financial burden on the individual and society. Finally, it can be challenging to the family and caregivers of these individuals because navigating the healthcare needs can be problematic. An enriched neurorehabilitation program may improve the quality of life and outcomes of the individual with TBI. The diagnosis of anxiety has been found to be a major factor that influences the prognosis. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and pharmacology can assist in the management …

A Longitudinal, Randomized And Controlled Study Of App-Delivered Mindfulness In The Workplace, Jennifer S. Mascaro, Kathryn Wehrmeyer, Veronica Mahathre, Alana Darcher
Journal of Wellness
Introduction: Workplace mindfulness meditation programs are of great interest for improving employee well-being and job performance, fueled in part by the apparent effectiveness of mindfulness meditation as well as by the recent proliferation of mobile mindfulness applications (apps) that can be incorporated into a workplace setting. It is critical to examine the facilitators and barriers to engaging with app-delivered mindfulness in the workplace to understand how biological, psychological, and socio-demographic variables impact practice time.
Methods: Using a longitudinal and randomized controlled design, we explored facilitators of and barriers to practicing app-delivered mindfulness in the workplace among predominately non-white call center …

Amongst the myriads of applications of meditative practice, mindfulness meditation can be arguably the simple yet most evidence-based type of meditative method. This simple and age-old technique emphasizes upon cultivating in the practitioner a nonjudgmental awareness on a moment-to-moment basis. Mindfulness meditation was introduced to the American audience in the early 1990’s by Jon Kabat-Zinn, and beginning the early 2000s has seen an exponential growth trajectory that continues to this day. However, its rising popularity has given rise to considerable misinformation and misunderstanding as well.

The Effectiveness Of A Mindfulness-Based Intervention: A Neuropsychological Perspective Using An Electroencephalography, Elizabeth Mary Grace
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in mindfulness-related techniques. The willingness to experience emotions fully, just as they are, is a catalyst for psychological change to occur. Mindfulness has been used to alleviate stress and promote healthy living (Lagopoulos et al., 2009). The clinical utility of mindfulness has grown exponentially; however, the neuropsychological process of mindfulness is still being understood. The present study sought to examine the influence of a brief mindfulness intervention on brain activation in college students. A sample (n = 17) of undergraduate participants were randomly assigned into a prepost mindfulness intervention or control …
