Bioelectronics, J. Fleming, Steven Ripp
The Encyclopedia of Industrial Biotechnology was published in order to help readers make sense of the vast amounts of information that have been published around the world across a broad array of ournals, books, and websites. With its comprehensive coverage, Encyclopedia of Industrial Biotechnology is the ideal starting point for research projects involving any aspect of industrial biological processes, including fermentation, biocatalysis, bioseparation, and biofabrication
Bacteriophage Probe-Based Biosensors, 2009 University of Tennessee - Knoxville
Bacteriophage Probe-Based Biosensors, M. Zourob, Steven Ripp
This book presents a significant and up-to-date review of various recognition receptors, their immobilization, and an overview of surface characterization techniques. Distinguished scientists from key institutions worldwide have contributed chapters that provide a deep analysis of their particular subjects; at the same time, each topic is framed within the context of this integrated approach. This work explores comprehensively the field of recognition receptors, presenting a thorough review of the subject and effective integration of these receptors on sensor surfaces in order to appropriately convey state-of the-art fundamentals and applications of the most innovative approaches.

Understanding Stem Cell Research: Controversy And Promise, 2009 Providence College
Understanding Stem Cell Research: Controversy And Promise, Father Nicanor Austriaco
Rev. Nicanor Austriaco, O.P.
What are embryonic stem cells, why are they so exciting and yet controversial, and what can be done to move our society beyond the current moral and political impasse? To provide answers to these questions, we will begin with a basic introduction to the science behind stem cell research. We will then move to a description of the emerging field of regenerative medicine, the main reason why stem cell research has generated so much excitement in the scientific community. As we will see, the drive to develop stem cells for regenerative medicine has linked stem cell research with the controversy ...

What About The Children? Benjamin And Arendt: On Education, Work, And The Political, Jules Simon
This article is a rough draft of an article that I contributed to an edited volume of articles dealing with progressive education theory. I reflect on articles that Hannah Arendt and Walter Benjamin wrote that deal with educational reform and innovation, both political in nature.
Polyphyly Of The Pikeminnows (Teleostei: Cyprinidae) Inferred Using Mitochondrial Dna Sequences, 2009 Utah Valley University
Polyphyly Of The Pikeminnows (Teleostei: Cyprinidae) Inferred Using Mitochondrial Dna Sequences, T. Heath Ogden
T. Heath Ogden
The phylogenetic relationships of the Colorado pikeminnow Ptychocheilus lucius, northern pikeminnow P. oregonensis, Sacramento pikeminnow P. grandis, Umpqua pikeminnow P. umpquae, and hardhead Mylopharodon conocephalus were examined by using molecular data to investigate monophyly of the genus Ptychocheilus. Phylogenies generated using DNA sequence data from the cytochrome b and 16S ribosomal DNA genes of the mitochondrial genome reveal that Ptychocheilus is a polyphyletic genus and suggest that the taxonomy of the group is in need of further revision. These data yield insights into the evolution of the pikeminnows and help place the significant evolutionary events in context with the geological ...

Vertical Dispersal Of Aedes (Stegomyia) Spp. In High-Rise Apartments In Putrajaya, Malaysia, Mohd Sofian Bin Azirun
Mohd Sofian Bin Azirun
A preliminary study on the vertical dispersal of Aedes populations in high-rise apartments was carried out in Presint 9, Putrajaya, Malaysia. Ovitraps were placed indoors within four blocks of high-rise apartments from the ground floors (0.0 - 3.0 m) until up to the tenth floors (28.1 - 30.0 m). Aedes aegypti was the dominant species found in the ovitraps (87.85%), while Aedes albopictus was found in lower numbers. From total number of larvae collected (650), 40.92% of these larvae were obtained from the fourth block; Block D. The peak density of Aedes sp. was observed at ...
