Wealth-creating industries are the backbone of the regional economy; they contribute to economic growth, personal wealth, and regional competitive advantage. For an economy to stay vibrant and competitive, it is essential to identify these industries so that strategic policies can foster and support regional growth. Three regional groups of drivers were identified in Northeast Ohio (NEO): Professional Services, Growing Legacy Manufacturing, and Oil and Gas. These groups, known as Groups of Regional Driver Industries (GRIDs) were identified using statistical analyses and data-driven insights for 2013 to 2017. A Profile Of Advanced Manufacturing In Northeast Ohio, Iryna Demko

Advanced manufacturing industries represent technology-intensive manufacturing of a fundamental importance to the economic strength and national security of the United States. In 2017, advanced manufacturing industries in Northeast Ohio contributed over half of the manufacturing output and employed 42% of the region’s manufacturing workforce. On average, advanced manufacturing industries paid 26% higher wages than other manufacturing industries. Manufacturing companies striving to achieve new levels of output and keep pace with global competition should increasingly turn to one of their most important assets—people—to drive further growth.

This research provides relevant, data-driven insights on competitive industries in the Northeast Ohio (NEO) economy over the 2013-2017 period. This report informs the reader on industries that over the last five years outperformed their national counterparts in wealth creation. These industries employ a significant amount of regional workforce, create sizable output, and have a regional competitive advantage. This research updates previous research conducted by the Regional Economic Competitiveness Strategy in 2011 and provides up-to-date insights into the future growth areas of NEO’s regional economy.

This report identifies and describes national trends in the progression of agricultural cooperatives since 1913 with an emphasis on 2000s. As the number of agricultural cooperatives in the U.S. has declined, their size, represented by business volume and the number of members, increased. Based on 1976-2016 data, cooperatives’ total assets and equity have been increasing and were projected to grow in 2017. On average, 2% of cooperatives in the U.S. merged or were acquired . This report analyzes the potential economic impact of La Villa Hispana’s construction and operation proposed in the Clark‐Fulton neighborhood of Cleveland, the home to the densest population of Hispanic residents in the State of Ohio. We separately estimate the economic impact of El Mercado, one of the foundational projects of the La Villa Hispana development. The economic impacts are assessed on the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, and the State of Ohio.

Economic impact is an analytical approach used to estimate the benefits generated by an entity for an affected region. This study uses an input-output (I-O) model to estimate the effect of NASA Glenn Research Center’s spending on the economies of Northeast Ohio (NEO) and Ohio. The 2018 report on the economic impact of companies funded and/or assisted by the Northeast Ohio Entrepreneurial Services Provider Program (ESP) shows findings and evidence of the growth of the supported firms over time. These companies not only have a significant workforce and expenditures, they also have a total of 2,313 issued patents and 6,777 patents pending. In 2017 alone, there were 891 issued patents and 920 patents pending.

This report presents an analysis of the economic impact of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s John H. Glenn Research Center (NASA Glenn) during its fiscal year (FY) 2016. This report presents an analysis of the local economic impact of the MetroHealth System’s campus transformation. The MetroHealth System (“MHS”) Board of Trustees endorsed a campus transformation plan for an $855 million capital project, which includes cost projections for various aspects of the project, including design, construction, and equipment. The transformation plan covers a period of nine years spanning 2015 to 2023. The project involves several new buildings, including a 12-story hospital, a large parking garage, and a central utility plant. Examining entrepreneurial ecosystem measurement is an interesting and important research activity for several reasons. First, there is a significant amount of taxpayer investment in play through public financing of small businesses and early stage companies.
