This is a working document and is the first product of an ongoing project focused on the existence of and prospects for Cascadia. The document is organized into three main sections. In section one we consider Cascadia from an economic point of view using the cluster model developed by Michael Porter and others. In section two we look at the Cascadia through the lens afforded by high speed rail. In the third section we revisit the questions that launched this study, and discuss the next steps. These words speak to the condition of the blocks bounded by SW 4th and SW 5th Avenues, I-405 and Market Street in the south end of Downtown Portland, Oregon. Yet, this corridor holds the potential for knitting the east boundary of Portland State University with the South Auditorium Urban Renewal Area, providing critical east-west linkages between the campus and the waterfront, and accommodating a confluence of current and planned transit lines. This project provides a framework for guiding future public involvement in creating the Oregon City's Concept Plan and the Park Place Neighborhood Plan. The public involvement process focused on identifying issues and opportunities associated with the possible development of an area adjacent to the neighborhood that, if annexed into the city, will become part of the neighborhood. Aperio Consulting worked in conjunction with Portland Parks and Recreation (PP&R) on their Skatepark Master Planning process in the spring of 2005.This project was undertaken to help PP&R and their siting committee make informed decisions when siting a system of skate parks for the City of Portland. This document is also designed for use by parks planners and community members in other cities who are considering building skateparks. Old Town Chinatown is home to over 40 nonprofit organizations (nonprofits), including social service providers and arts, history, and culture groups. These groups contribute immeasurably to the community through the services and educational opportunities they provide and through their role in the social and economic fabric of the neighborhood. Urban renewal has come to the neighborhood in the form of several large projects that are either currently underway or scheduled to begin in the next several years. The Roseway-Sandy Streetscape Concept Plan advances the community's vision for Sandy Boulevard from 68th to 80th Avenues as their Main Street. Intersect Planning prepared the Concept Plan for the Roseway Neighborhood Association - creating ideas for how future transportation investments may improve the quality, character, and safety of Sandy Boulevard for all members of the community. In addition to an inventory of potential urban agriculture sites, the team also conducted a literature review, held focus groups with relevant stakeholders, conducted numerous interviews, and administered and analyzed surveys. The results of these outreach efforts greatly informed criteria development and recommendations, and expanded our understanding of the potential for urban agriculture in Portland. This paper summarizes research conducted by the authors who served as the ad-hoc Disbursement Task Force created by NCPlenty, Inc., the non-profit managing agency for a local currency system in central North Carolina, USA. NCPlenty, Inc. began printing a scrip-based local currency called the PLENTY in October 2002. The PLENTY, or Piedmont Local EcoNomy Tender, is based on the Ithaca HOURS currency and has faced circulation and distribution issues similar to other HOURS-based systems in the US. While at the start of the PLENTY’s first year of circulation the number of participating individuals and businesses nearly doubled and a vibrant …
