Aquidneck Island is an island with a unique set of circumstances contributing to its growth. At present it is poised on the brink of undertaking major development projects in the industrial, commercial, and residential sectors without any cohesive island-wide body coordinating the various activities. This paper briefly describes the evolution of the island historically, geologically, and politically. It explores the process by which a micro-regional approach could take towards the common problems now facing the three island communities. This paper assumes the merits of planning. Research in urban transportation has been of many facets. Some have emphasized modes and routes while others have attempted to isolate and look at small segments of the transportation market with specific demands. Such segments include workers, recreation riders, and to a less extent, students. In the "journey-to-work" studies, a major finding has been that as income of workers increases, the distance between residence and work-place also increases.

The Impact Of Physical Design And Surrounding Land Use On Residents’ Perceptions And Attitudes Towards High Density Housing, Jeffrey George Ahonen

Studies of various types have indicated that high density housing and overcrowding may have effects on man’s well being and resident satisfaction. The study examines residents’ attitudes and perceptions of high density housing in two square mile tracts in the City of Kitchener. One tract is characterized by homogeneous land use; the other by mixed land use. Responses are obtained from sixty townhouse and sixty apartment units in each of the two sample tracts by use of a questionnaire. The data is analyzed using SPSS, a difference-of-means test and factor analytic work. It was determined that the variables physical structure …
