The Lents Neighborhood of Portland, Oregon aspires to reclaim its identity and renew its economic vitality. Construction of the 1-205 freeway in the mid-1970's physically divided it and disrupted its sense of community. Prompted by the wishes of the community and other concerned parties for greater visibility and a stronger economic center for Lents, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has asked Lumpetek to study this site and develop recommendations for its best use. We will research physical, environmental and demographic aspects of the parcel and surrounding area, as well as designs which have been implemented on sites' with similar …

Center for Urban Studies Publications and Reports
As required by state law, Metro has conducted an "Urban Growth Report" and a "Housing Needs Analysis" to determine whether the currant Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) surrounding the Portland metropolitan area is sufficient to handle the increase in population and number of households expected over the next 20 years. Mr. Don Morissette commissioned Portland State University's Center for Urban Studies to assess whether the techniques used in theses two studies were appropriate and to assess the impact of the UGB on housing markets in the Portland metropolitan area generally. This plan proposes new park classifications for THPRD, adding new types of park and recreation facilities appropriate to station communities and adjusting existing classifications to address the needs of a more urban environment. This plan also presents service criteria and design issues that should be considered in siting park and recreation facilities, and elements that should be incorporated into site design. The classifications, service criteria, and design elements were applied to the 170th/Elmonica station area, resulting in a conceptual park and recreation plan for that community, which is also included. Finally, strategies are presented to implement the recommendations contained in …

Metro, the regional planning organization for Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington Counties, designated the area in Southwest Portland known as West Portland as a Town Center in its Region 2040 Preferred Growth Concept. Metro's Town Center definition is open to different levels of interpretation without much guidance as to how the Town Center vision (i.e. increased density, a mix of land uses, a sense of place, and an emphasis on alternative modes of travel) is to be planned for and implemented. Since this designation in 1994, public sector planning efforts have been initiated around and specific to the West Portland Town …

In short, this entire project is conceived as a point of departure for recognizing the impact of globalization on contemporary planning practice within the Portland metro area. It offers …
