Where Is Portland Made? The Complex Relationship Between Social Media And Place In The Artisan Economy Of Portland, Oregon (Usa), Stephen Marotta, Austin Cummings, Charles H. Heying

Portland, Oregon (USA) has become known for an artisanal or ‘maker’ economy that relies on a resurgence of place specificity (Heying), primarily expressed and exported to a global audience in the notion of ‘Portland Made’ (Roy). Portland Made reveals a tension immanent in the notion of ‘place’: place is both here and not here, both real and imaginary. What emerges is a complicated picture of how place conceptually captures various intersections of materiality and mythology, aesthetics and economics. Demographic Analysis Of The Healthcare, Manufacturing, And Skilled Trades Industries, Elizabeth Morehead, Sheila A. Martin

While the American economy has been characterized by increasing labor-market polarization over the past decade, recent growth in mid-wage, mid-skill jobs holds promise for workers looking for an opportunity to earn a self-sufficient wage.

By July of this year, the economy had added over 900,000 middle-income positions, matching the pace of growth in high-wage fi elds, and outpacing growth in low-wage occupations. Many of these mid-wage and mid-skill jobs can be found in healthcare, production, and the skilled trades, specifi cally construction and extraction, and installation, maintenance, and repair.

Portland Made is a self-sustaining collective of makers, artisans and manufacturers that advocates and supports its members by providing education and marketing, a shared resource hub, and a brand that promotes their products locally and globally.” This report describes the results of a survey of the Portland Made Collective (PMC) members conducted spring 2014. We are pleased to present the eighth edition of the Neighborhood Information Profiles. The Profiles were last published by the City of Portland's Office of Finance and Administration in 1986. This edition is based on the 1990 Census data.

This demographic report includes Census data compiled according to the boundaries of each of the 90 recognized neighborhood associations in Portland. The information about boundaries was gathered from neighborhood by-laws and interviews with neighborhood leaders. The boundaries are current as of August 31, 1992.
