NASA Glenn is located at Lewis Field, a 300-acre site adjacent to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. NASA Glenn’s physical plant includes more than 150 buildings that contain a unique collection of world-class laboratories and test facilities. Since the groundbreaking for the Aircraft Engine Research Laboratory of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (forerunner to NASA) on January 23, 1941, more than $680 million has been invested in NASA Glenn’s physical plant. The estimated replacement cost is approximately $2.6 billion. The Lewis Field site and its Plum Brook Station, located in Sandusky, Ohio, is 50 miles west of Cleveland, each host …

This study describes the impact of GRC on the State of Ohio and on Northeast Ohio, where GRC is located. Northeast Ohio includes the eight counties in the Akron and Cleveland metropolitan areas.1 This report is an expansion and update of an earlier study, published in February 1996.2 As before, this study employs two methods to determine GRC’s influence on the state and local economies. The first method uses quantitative models to estimate the effect of GRC on the studied economies. This report describes the findings from the third study of Dashboard indicators using the framework that was developed in the previous two studies. The framework resulted in a set of indicators that explains the dynamics of regional economic growth for large and mid-sized metropolitan areas in the United States. The objective of this study is to continue monitoring the performance of Northeast Ohio metropolitan areas over time and in comparison to other metropolitan areas across the United States.

This report provides a strategic framework to guide the activities of the Ohio Aerospace and Defense Advisory Council (OADCAC). The OADAC provides advice to the Governor. Although OADAC does not have operational authority, the OADAC plays an important role in shaping and aligning State policy toward the aerospace and defense industries.

This report was prepared for Ohio’s IT Alliance, a statewide network of six regional IT groups located throughout Ohio and headquartered in Dayton. The study was conducted by the Ohio Economic Development Information Network, better known as the ES202 Network. The ES202 Network is a statewide group of ten urban and rural universities that develops and maintains a database of employment, payroll, and establishments at the zip code level throughout Ohio. ES202 Network researchers are engaged in industry and labor force research that utilizes this unique database.

The objective of this study is to continue monitoring the economic performance of Northeast Ohio’s (NEO) metropolitan areas over time and in comparison to other metropolitan areas across the United States, particularly leading metropolitan areas and other large metro areas located in the Midwest. The study monitors economic conditions prior to the current recession. This fourth study of dashboard indicators describes the findings using the framework that was developed in previous studies. It uses the same four measures of economic growth and nine dashboard indicators and their underlying variables for 136 metropolitan areas with population between 300,000 and 3.5 million. …

This report describes trends in the high-tech sector in Northeast Ohio, focusing on the 2004-2006 time period. It is the first update to a baseline report released in February 2007 that analyzed trends between 2000 and 2005. This study follows the baseline report in that it examines the high-tech sector in Northeast Ohio from three perspectives — high-tech industries, high-tech occupations, and research and development activity. It assesses the strengths and weaknesses of high-tech industries in terms of employment, average wage, gross regional product (output), and productivity.
